DOTPUP - sven multimedia keyboard daemon 0.4.2 |
|
Sven makes those pesky extra keys on your "multimedia"
keyboard useful. Now you can start your web browser
with the internet key, control your cd player with the
Play,Search and Stop keys, or any application using any
key or key-combination that you like. You can use mouse
button combinations as well.

Please read the readme.

I think this is rather suitable for Puppy
It uses the GPL license (however you spell that)
It puts a puppy on the JWM toolbar (is it Sven?)
We could have Alt+ f4 (shutdown)
print screen (Mtpaint snapshot)
f1 = Help
etc
oh and it also works with the multimedia keyboard I am using . . .
Heres the website
http://sven.linux.kiev.ua/index-en.shtml
Many thanks

I'm glad it works for you Lobster. Print Screen for a snapshot is a good idea. It's funny: on windows Print Screen copies a snapshot to the clipboard, on OS/2 Print Screen prints a snapshot of the screen to the default printer.
I've been enjoying sven. I've got most of my audio mixer on various combinations of VolumeUp/Down and control keys. Mp3s, streams and such aside, I also like having my CD controls always just a keyboard key press away.
The source is starting to make some sense to me now as well. I've learned that compiling on a fat32 partition can make builds more difficult. Gparted here I come.

Hey Fluxit,
Really good program you got going here. I've been enjoying it for a few weeks now thanks to Disciple recommending it, but I came across a problem. It might be just me though, but Sven is extraordinarily resource hungry on my computer. I mostly use it to control sound (which for me is something amazingly hard to live without). Using Puppy 3.01 I found it to be using 99.0 percent of my CPU according to Top View. That's kind of, um unusual, not sure what's causing it, any suggestions? I can't think of anything I changed in the prefs that would have made a major difference.

@battle: I also use puppy301, and wasn't able to replicate your problem in my pupsave, or in a vanilla save, not too sure whats causin that, ill give it another shot in the am.
@fluxit:
the only minor problem im having is the xosd seems to want to hang around forever, i have a geforce 5200 configured for compiz, but running a pretty vanilla kde357.sfs
i was a googler of the interwebs, but i couldn't find anything related to it, whats interesting (imho) is that it doesn't seem like its a refresh thing, like if i drag something over it, or cause a menu over it, it will still be there, it looks like its actively drawing it there, until i open the sven pref's window. its kind of a downer to not know where im at volume control wise, but other than that, many thanks for the awesome .pup
EDIT: it seems like only when im running compiz, does the xosd get stuck on screen. seens fine with all other wm's i have.

It's all good thanks El ginko and Fluxit. I observed Sven in a different pup save I had and sven was running on about 2%. Must have been a glitch in the particular pup save I was running. I guess I'll have to check my points more thoroughly before making posts. Thanks!

But you can do all this with jwm and xmodmap? Surely?
Ok, you don't get little messages telling you what you are doing or nice little volume sliders on screen.
