I have got wvdial to work.
Firstly, I discovered that the package 'modem-stats' is missing.
This is a little C utility that sends Hayes commands to a modem. We use it to test a modem
I compiled modem-stats, and it will be in the next build.
I tried various recompiles of wvstreams and wvdial, got that same error.
Then, just on the off-chance, I compiled ye-olde wvdial 1.41. This is an ancient version that does not require a separate wvstreams package, instead has inbuilt wvstreams code that is considerably smaller.
This old wvdial works, and I was able to go online with PupDial.
However, trying to recall, there was some reason that we had to upgrade to wvdial 1.5 and later. It may have had something to do with the /dev/ttyUSB interfaces.
Well, wvdial 1.41 is connecting with /dev/ttyUSB0, no problem.
But, there is the 'wvdialconf' utility, that PupDial may use to probe a modem -- perhaps that does not understand /dev/ttyUSB* devices.
In that case, maybe this is an excellent project for a low-level coding genius like technosaurus, to fix the old 1.41 to properly recognise the serial usb ports.

The fglrx driver has the correct resolution and supports 2 monitors but

I get the seamonkey first run notice everytime on this pc too, just

Hi Barry,
I am trying to compile in puppy precise 5.7.1 for i686.
I am trying the minimal options for abiword.
./configure alone doesnt work, it needs boostlib
./configure --with-boost=no doesnt work, needs gtk3
./configure --with-boost=no --with-gtk2 , doesnt work, still needs boostlib
So I opened a bug report : http://bugzilla.abisource.com/show_bug.cgi?id=13695
boostlib isn't in the Devx by default ? So I cannot compile abiword without it ?
Cheers.
http://bugzilla.abisource.com/show_bug.cgi?id=13695
Ok it's a bug but they won't fix it (damn). Boostlib is mandatory for abiword.

Introducing April64
I was able to compile Deadbeef 0.6.2 with the config:
./configure --prefix=/usr --sysconfdir=/etc --localstatedir=/var --libdir=/usr/lib64 --disable-hotkeys
EDIT: I was able to compile mplayer-checkout-snapshot.tar.bz2 +
gmtk-1.0.8.tar.gz + gnome-mplayer-1.0.8.tar.gz.

Hello, Mr. Kauler.BarryK wrote:Regarding Abiword, this is how I configured it in T2:
The 'grammar' plugin got linked into the abiword executable, but I think it only works if compiled as a separate plugin.Code: Select all

EDIT:
For 64-bit target, change above to '--build=x86_64-pc-linux-gnu'
Abiword is its plugins.
Instead of again giving an incomplete representation of abiword by compiling only a
few of its plug-ins, -- hopefully you are doing so for technical reasons, but whatever
the case may be -- please leave it out and gain some space for the distro. You could
simply provide URL's to direct potential users to both Médor's and shinobar's
excellent Abiword-3 sfs's.
General users and even some of those who write for a living will then have a choice
and be better served since both packages provide a complete word-processing tool,
not a crippled one.
From one who's pushed for years for having the full abiword in Puppy. Puppyists
now have the tremendous chance to have available two complete versions of
abiword 3. Why go backwards, why settle for less?
Best regards.

Hi, linuxcbon.linuxcbon wrote:@musher0 the goal is to have a complete puppy, not a incomplete piece of useless crap, so bad idea.
If it's useless crap, it shouldn't be in Puppy, period. Viewed from another angle,
maybe you think abiword is crap because you've always been presented a crippled
version of it?
Conversely, if it's in Puppy, it's worth something, and a complete version should
then be presented to avoid misrepresentation, especially to newcomers.
It's too easy to break a guy's legs and then say: "That guy can't run in the race."
Puppy is doing the same thing to abiword. abiword may not be the greatest word-
processor in the world, but it still has its merits.
In my mind it is clear that this is a moral issue, not a computing issue.
Best regards.

Puppy is a light distro
With light but numerous apps. Sfs Goffice 7MB from JP fullfill most of us needs. People working with powerfull textwriter can continue downloading a full abiword (Musher has it).
Browsers get bigger and bigger...
Puppy will no more enter old computers
Please think about non administrative people. You can load :
OOo
Libre Office
Koffice
Softoffice
and others....
The poor puppy is a all purpose distro, share between categories, multimedia, graphics, office.
You have so much of choice... for typewrting nice letters.

Still trying to build abiword in precise 686...and chasing after libraries.
After installing boost , I got
ut_go_file.cpp38: error: 'gsf_input_http_new' was not declared in this scope
So missing library "libgsf" in devx...
Trying to install libgsf, it needs gnome-common.
Installed gnome-common, libgsf needs gtk-doc
Trying to configure gtk-doc :
configure: error: could not find DocBook XML DTD V4.3 in XML catalog
Ok what's next ?
ps : I think I will try this directly in april64.

Yeah, boost is required. Both i686 and amd64 April builds have it, in the devx.linuxcbon wrote:Hi Barry,

I haven't uploaded Quirky April i686 yet, will do so soon.
The i686 build will have some of the same bugs as the amd64 build, and with the help of you guys testing this alpha-release, I will get lots of those bugs squashed, so when upload i686 April it should be a pretty good experience.

I tested mplayer with some video files, and it either crashed or wouldn't play them. Mostly crashed.
