Xsane failing since 18.06+6

#303 Post by davids45 »

G'day peebee,

Still using JWM as my preferred Window Manager  .

Used your latest delta (+13) then from the new iso, manually frugalled to my 64-bit Puppies partition.

Copied the savefile from 18.06+12, renamed to '13' from '12', and booted with no problem.

Better-Late-Than-Never Dept.?
Since 18.06+6, I have had no luck with my networked scanner (Epson WP-2501 multifunction) with Xsane unable to find it. There was no problem with LxPupSc18.06-6, but in 8, 9, 10, 12 & now 13, Xsane fails. I couldn't get Iscan (Epkowa) to work at all in these Pups - Iscan is Ok in some other 64-bit Pups (and all 32-bit Pups).

Did something happen after 18.06+6 to affect scanning? Anyone else tried scanning with LxPupSc64 recently?

Anything I could try to locate the problem or to copy from 18.06+6 to rectify my problem?

Thanks,

David S.

+12 updated to +13 using the delta. Pristine boot, then savefile update, then the 4.19.8 64b kernel swapped in and Slimjet 20.0.4.0 updated to 21.0.7.0 (downloaded the deb from slimjet and rolled a run-as-spot SFS adding the libs needed for slackware). Low level checks, sound, SNS connection, printing, USB drive mount behavior etc. are all good and the whole shebang is running just fine on:

As above, booting and running well. Did all the file transfers (using an external USB3 SSD) and pruning in lxpup64 for the updates on the Bay Trail using pcmanfm with no glitches seen on that hardware nor on the i5 in daily use... Posting from the Bay Trail box now in Slimjet 21.0.7.0 64b run-as-spot from SFS

Thanks,

pcmanfm

#305 Post by westwest »

I'm still experiencing freezes in pcmanfm...
LxPupSc64 frugal, 18.06+12, stock kernel.
Problem is completely random, seems to disappears, then pops up again.

The window freezes, process must be ended,
then upon reopening settings have reverted,
also some glitches in the rest of the system (toolbar, etc).

Could it be a video driver issue?

Also, impossible to install VirtualBox with the installer, as in other pups.
Installer cannot create symlinks.
Perhaps it is an LXDE specific issue...

Whooo, big delta! I did it the honor of a fresh savefile on the Fujitsu i5. Delta applied, md5sums correct. Pristine Grub4Dos frugal install to the usual SSD. Set up from scratch, timezone, SNS connect, firewall, touchpad config, lower panel, Data partition set to mount at boot and symlinks to profiles and downloads dir in spot there set up, Slimjet 21.0.7.0 64b run-as-spot loaded, pmcputemp-0.63 and portable redshift added from pets, default handler for external drives on plugin switched from pmount to pcmanfm (my preference), Brother HL-2170W laserprinter set up with CUPS (found fine with firewall temp. disabled and I just add its brotherly ID to the hosts file and run it as a generic PCL laserprinter so no 'driver' files needed), wallpaper set, save replaces run in the main menu, a line in rc.local deletes the save2flash icon on desktop. Pretty much set up as my previous lxpup64s at this point. Lots of files slung, SFS opened and closed, external USB3 drive used, no hitches or glitches other than my own, all retrievable :) As usual Sylpheed and Slimmie just work, using the common external profiles, and with Slimmie cache zeroed out. Video FPS good, CPU use at idle a bit higher with the stock theme but I didn't change as of yet. Dmesg quite clean. Some ACPI memory conflict warnings but those have been in the lxpup64 on this hardware for quite a while with no consequences seen. Lidsuspend done right now -fine-.

I probably won't do an update as it was time for a fresh start.

Forgot: As usual, I added rightclick options and disks-on desktop, both from
the options menu in Change appearance. Both are working well.

I did go ahead and try the 13 to 14 update. I used the fresh 14 savefile as a guide when scrubbing the 13 savefile pre-update. No problems at all. Using the Open-Murrine-Winter theme there instead of the Nodoka-Aqua. Slightly lighter on CPU use.

Update on 12/24/2018: Also migrated +14 to the Bay Trail desktop (Celeron J1900 CPU) using the 'fresh' savefile. Running perfectly there also.

Cheers,

LxPupSc64-19.01+0-uefi-T-k64 installed (frugal, Grub4Dos) to the usual i5 laptop (hardware details above). mdsum of generated iso correct, done as both pristine boot and an update of the +14 savefile. No problems at all in either. Dmesg, CPU and mem use at idle, video FPS, external drive detection and mount behavior, sound, SNS wifi connection etc. all perfect. The 4.19.13 64b kernel has none of the oddities I saw (only on the i5) with the 4.20.0 kernel. I haven't repeated any tests of that on the i5. I just retired my remaining two core 2 duo laptops so no more tests on them. Basically swapped 2 of them, superclean and complete, for another i5 S761 laptop needing some tlc and parts I mostly have. I have a day or so on this LxPupSc64, just mundane daily stuff, but it seems solid.

Cheers,

Same issue as reported with upupbb and upupcc current versions. I haven't done as much checking here but as there, all md5sums ok, boots fine on update and loads savefiles but runs in pupmode 12, not 13. Got to be a woof-ce bobble.

Code: Select all

# save2flash
save2flash: Wrong PUPMODE (12)

Rolling back to +5 for now here also.

Reuploaded delta applied, md5sum of generated iso correct, frugal install of +6 updated. Bug well squashed. Runs correctly in pupmode 13 now.
