Peebee,

Can I ask a quick question? Are you the person behind "Simplicity Linux"?? I went and downloaded their "mini", "desktop" and "X" version, and I first started with the "mini', and I was kid of taken aback when it booted up, it was exactly (I mean every detail, look, to what's included in the menus, to how its organized, etc, etc) as your LXPup. I could find no difference between yours and Simplicity's....it is like downloaded yours and just wrote the Simplicity Name on a the background logo. Every thing else is "exactly" the same :?

It kind of turned me off, in a big way, because if he is not you, he is ripping you (micko/phil) off big time and trying to push something that he's saying is "his" when in fact it is what you've all been doing for a long time now.

Apologies if I don't understand something here.....like maybe it really is you (or approved by you/micko/phil) and you all are just branching out to try to create a more recognizable family brand based on the slack&xenial LxPups (lxde, etc).

Hi

No - Simplicity is nothing to do with me or anybody else who contributes to Puppy Linux (as far as I know).

The "author" just takes from Puppy Linux and does not contribute to the forum or give anything back to Puppy Linux (as far as I can tell). He does not make any sort of contact. Some of the changes he makes are of very poor quality and I am somewhat embarassed that people might think I have anything to do with Simplicity - I do NOT!!

But thanks for asking....
Cheers

No worries, Peebee, as I had mentioned, soon as I saw him basically copy everything from you guys, off it went and I deleted what I had downloaded from it. Just wish there was a place I could write a review warning people if they want the "real thing", to come here (or your LXPup web page) and not there. Simplicity is a crock of lies, imho!

Thanks again for all you do..... :)

Top-Tray

#143 Post by sszindian »

What I did -

First increased the 'Bottom-Tray' to 55 in height (I like bottom tray larger also) and increased icons to 45

Then -

Tried to increase the 'Top-Tray' to 55 in height... it would not work.

So -

Dropping the height of the 'Bottom-Tray' back down to 34 and also decreasing the icon-size, I was able to increase the 'Top-Tray' to my desired height of 55 (also increased the icon-size where I wanted it)

What it looks like is you 'Can't Increase Both' top and bottom trays???

>>>---Indian------>

PS: Other than that little thing, the program is running well so far so on with the testing.

Oh... one more thing... phil was able to change a few things in the Tahr64 32-bit libs packet for Xenial64 to use them for 32-bit programs. any chance of the same for Slacko 32-bit libs? the old ones don't seem to cut it!

Hi

No problem here.....

Right click bottom panel -> Panel Settings - adjust size

Right click top panel -> Panel Settings - adjust size

Both work simultaneously.....

32-bit libs is a question for 01micko.... suggest you post on the slacko7 thread....

Cheers

Tray(s)

#145 Post by sszindian »

Oh Boy.... Two independant tray functions.... I was trying to do both top and bottom tray from 'one-tray-function' somehow must of hit the right switch combo for my last post? Anyway good to know that!

The PPM hplip packages (slacko & salix) are both missing the 'libpython2.7.so.1.0' and don't work for HP scanners on All-In-One printers (print function works fine). I don't have one of these laying around (nor could I find a .pet of this anywhere) ?

Python is in the devx.sfs so probably this needs to be loaded.....

LxPup64 - 64bit versions of Puppy with the LXDE desktop

#147 Post by Billtoo »

I booted the live CD and ran the UEFI Installer-Flash Drives to a 32gb
Flash drive. It wouldn't install the files from the CD so I had to use
the iso.

32-bit libs for LxPup64

#148 Post by sszindian »

Installed 01micko's new 32bit libs for 14.2 from his home-site...

They don't work with my 32-bit google earth .sfs (this version of google earth works with all my other pup's 32 or 64 bit)

terminal reports:
# googleearth
libGL error: unable to load driver: i915_dri.so
libGL error: driver pointer missing
libGL error: failed to load driver: i915
libGL error: unable to load driver: swrast_dri.so
libGL error: failed to load driver: swrast
Google Earth has caught signal 11.

Hope some other testor's try some 32-bit programs with these new libs.

Hi all,

I'm wondering what the current status of LxPup64 (Xenial) is currently?

Is it still reaaally experimental? Would you say that I could trust it as my main OS yet?

(Or is this the wrong thread and only for Slacko?)

Hi

There is no such build as LxPup64-Xenial I'm afraid....and unlikely to be...

Basically, the Ubuntu ways of dividing packages into smaller and smaller subdivisions plus the lack of standardisation on how lib and lib64 should relate in 64 builds makes such a build too difficult...

Slackware is much more sane!

Sorry.

Thanks Peebee.

That leads me to 3 more question though ;-)

1. How does Tahrpup do it then with the Ubuntu packages? (Is that because Tahrpup is a larger project and you're just a one-man-show?)

2. Is the Slacko 64 bit stable enough to run with as a main OS then?

3. How do Slacko and Ubuntu compare? Does one sacrifice on software if running a Slacko install? (Think I read once that Slackware is essentially a one-man-band, so you're kind of at the mercy of that guy? Could be confusing it with something else though.)

1. LxPupTahr64 only ever appeared as an experiment in 10/2015 and had gvfs problems:
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 240#868240

2. I'm not the best to answer this as I don't run 64-bit....best answer is to try it and see....frugal install tho!

3. Different repositories - different ethos (a Benign Dictator is often better than rule by Committee!) Also Ubuntu has gone down the systemd route which is an anathema to most Puppy-ists and can lead to dependency problems....a discussion better conducted on one of the more general threads....

That makes me have more questions about Slacko, but yeah, let's just leave this thread relevant and I'll take them to another post.

This is a derivative of Slacko64-700-Beta3 (slacko64-6.9.6.7) with kernel 4.4.67

This iso is an experiment to see if LxPup64 can be built on top of Slacko64-7 and the iso will be replaced by 17.0x.1 once Slacko64-700 is released.

The iso is BIG mainly because Firefox and LibreOffice are included in the adrv

Wow, Peebee, what a difference this 4.4.67 kernel makes (in latest slacko64 it runs great, and in your lxpup64). At least on my older stuff. Thanks :)
