Again with slacko issues, bit i guess that this time is a global puppy issue

Trying to upgrade Mesa drivers to version 9 i got a warning after using "make install" saying that libs cannot be installed on other directory than /usr/local (trying to put on /usr/ due to lack of space and permanent changes) and as you know, Puppy has only one user (root). How i can override it?

I did with sucess a change over libdrm and flash videos runs a bit faster (i got a Intel Atom N450 with GMA 3000 graphics and over slacko it sucks). However, i'm thinking to liberate 3d drivers to get more performance and some features (like Gallium).

As i abandon Windows to don't get back on my netbook (performance on linux still poor), i'm trying to recover some of windows features here.

System with issues, Slacko 5.7 (and llvm compiler needed for that task uses a lot of space)

P.S: Libdrm deserves to get a pet. Any guide for this kind of files?

I do not know much about what you are trying to do.
My knowledge is limited.
However, as I understand and have read, about compiling programs in Puppy.
You will have the least amount of problems if Puppy is running as a full install on a partition formatted in a Linux format.
Also, the partition needs to have a good amount of free space.

Just something to think about. May or may not help in your problem.

The error code is this:

Code:
libtool: install: error: cannot install `libkms.la' to a directory not ending in /usr/local/lib

This is from libdrm install and appears too in Mesa with other issues.

How i can override it? I searched on Mesa3D man page and nothing.

P.S: On my desktop machine is even worse. Firefox is slow and perhaps that nouveau drivers are the source of the problem (graphics Nvidia Geforce 6150SE). I'm not taking risk with proprietary drivers because i will move to a Geforce 210 later. So who can solve this will solve for both machines.

EDIT: Solved but with one issue.

Following this post i should use make clean after ./configure to avoid error showed up. But is not the only step, to replace Mesa and libdrm packages and avoid wasting space ./configure command should follow these options.

Code:
./configure --prefix=/usr --exec-prefix=/usr

(the right place for slacko bin and lib files)

The only issue that i had after replacement is nouveau. glxgears showed a boost on FPS after Mesa upgrade (from 53fps to average 270), but alerts that nouveau driver is not loaded.
Code:
libGL error: failed to load driver: nouveau
libGL error: Try again with LIBGL_DEBUG=verbose for more details

Hardinfo showed that Gallium is the 3D driver, but i don't know if error is only for 3d or 2d driver is involved too. However, Firefox 34 is running well now.

I hope that my new card works well too, at least before Slacko64 or Slacko 6 gets mature
