Subject description: encrypted

I need a HIPPA-standard (256-bit) encrypted USB stick for work in a healthcare environment.

I'd prefer a bootable Puppy Linux USB Stick, that way the whole OS & basic apps are all there.

What is the best Puppy for this purpose, please?

Is there a 256-bit encryption option?

Thanks!

Do you need Spreadsheet/Word Processor/Presentations (Office) ?
Do you need to be able to read and make PDF's ?
Do you need a Skype-like app?, or is simple phone OK?
Do you need transcription?

First, you need to verify what is allowed to be used in your organization.
Most organizations do not allow any external devices hooked to their computers, or if they do, it has to be something that they provide.
Where I work we are issued a flash drive and it is very much controlled what can be on it.
They do check. Shocked

I have seen people get fired over using there own software.

Also, if something does happen to their system. You would be one of the first people, that would be questionable, as to something you did to their security procedures.

There are encryption programs for Linux that can do 256-bit encryption.
So, knowing exactly what you are wanting to do would help.

Are you talking about something like these flash drives?

Good points all, thanks.

I am told that as long as the files are stored on a 256-bit encrypted device it doesn't matter what computer I use.

I plan to use my Samsung NB30 Netbook and save to the encrypted USB stick.

The Samsung is a dual-boot Linux/MS machine but I never use MS as it's too buggy, inefficient, and vulnerable.

If the occasion arises I want to also be able to boot and run Linux from the USB stick, to access and edit the files, on a different pc.

It may also be necessary, on occasion, to access the files from a company laptop (they run the MS version of windows 8.1).

Flexibility is key.

WDYT?

Thanks - David
