Subject description: All 64bit

Jamesbond and Kirk are pleased to announce the release of Fatdog64-700 beta2.

Fatdog64-700 is a new major release of Fatdog64. All base packages have been updated. The release announcement for beta1 can be found here.

Changes from 700 beta1:

Updates:

Linux kernel-3.17.1
Seamonkey 2.30
Firefox-33.0
gcc-4.8.3
bash patch-level 053
openssl-1.0.1j
mesa to 10.2.9
libdrm-2.4.58
xf86-video-ati-7.5.0
fontconfig-2.11.1
mtpaint-3.44.89
slapt-get-0.10.2r
fontsproto-2.1.3
libevdev-1.3
libXfont-1.5.0
llvm-3.4.2
xf86-input-evdev-2.9.0
xf86-input-synaptics-1.8.1
xf86-video-vmware-092614
xorg-server-1.16.1
xproto-7.0.26
glade to 3.8.5

and numerous bug fixes and fine tunings.

Due to problems with fontconfig in beta1, all packages were rebuilt along with the new gcc. Which is quite easy for us to do now thanks to the build scripts that James wrote. If you have downloaded packages from the repo before this rebuild, you should download them again. Make sure you use a new savefile or savefolder for testing.

Get it from the usual location in ibiblio or one of its mirrors: aarnet, uoc.gr, and nluug.nl.

SFS-es are here: http://distro.ibiblio.org/fatdog/sfs/700/ and on ibiblio's mirrors too.

Thanks to all those who tested beta1!

It is up and working after manual install (i.e. copy initrd and vmlinuz to a partition). I am posting this with the beta 2 version. WPA-GUI made a connection to my wifi without a hitch. This laptop has Randon video. It was detected and proper driver was selected. So all is well here.

Hello jamesbond and kirk,
A frugal install of FD700b2 on Lenovo/via netbook is working great. I'm working from a copy of my FD700a1 save folder; only minor tinkering was needed. Luckily, no issues yet with installed packages. Posting from Opera-beta Smile Thanks, kirk!
When X starts, I get the message "It seems that another application already has access to the multimedia keys. Key Shift+Print couldn't be bound..." but screenshot works anyway, so I'm ignoring it.
Thanks for all your work.

Probably some problem from the old savefile. You can try deleting /aufs/pup_save/root/.sven and rebooting. But a new savefile/folder would be best.

Yes, that worked. Now there are no problems! Thanks.

Just did a frugal install to hard disk. SO far it seems to be working fine. Any idea how to install Microsoft web core fonts since I need them for local websites ?

I see /root/my-applications is back. It is not in PATH for running. This is a change from the Beta 1 version.

Running 700 b2 from a manually updated install w/o savefile. There may be less of a problem with cursor lag on start up, but the problem of click lag remains disturbing until x-window restart. Prior to restart I had trouble getting Gslapt to do anything. Afterward, had no problem installing Sypheed.

Even though the cursor position appeared to follow mouse quickly, there was no change, for example, in the update button when the cursor was hovering over it, until after x-window restart, when the change in appearance took place promptly.

Hi all,
Strange fault,
every few seconds my monitor goes blank like its switching resolution. Comes back ok no other symptoms. Everything else seems to work fine.

Frugal install and a cd boot have same problem.

black listing the radeon driver works but restricts the resolution to 1280x1024

Same behavior with 700b1, No other puppies / OS's have this problem.

ASUS motherboard with onboard radeon graphics and a Samsung T200HD monitor

thanks

dc

p.s.
Opera-dev (26.0.1656.5) with pepperflash is working great now.

For system fonts, they go in /usr/share/fonts/X11/TTF, there's a symlink to that folder in the root(home) folder. If you put fonts in there click on the Update-Fonts script and restart X. I don't know specifically about the Microsoft web core fonts.

DC, can you attach your /var/log/Xorg.0.log and /var/log/messages after you have the problem a few times? Maybe I can spot something.

I'll have to dig up a mouse and see if I can duplicate it. We boot pretty fast, sometimes things aren't quite ready when we start X.

Hiyas...

Machine is a dell E6510 (i7 / nvidia 3100m / 4g)

Copied the ISO files to a folder that grub uses to boot Fatdog, rebooted and all looks good.

After much trial and mostly error, (and with help of 'nox' in the grub boot) was finally able to install
the NVidia 3.40 drivers and all that looks good too Smile

Not sure how to install google's chrome.deb package, and you can't just use an existing binary folder
as there are sys libs installed and needed by chrome.

But I did find the Chrome 38 package in the repository, and that installed correctly and is set up to
use existing data folders that are also used by the 32bit puppy versions as well.

Next will be to install 'Second Life', as that's a fairly heavy OpenGL application.

Looks Good!
