Installing Puppy to USB Flash Drive to run on Mac

Hello mates! Been a while since I've needed to use Puppy Linux but there is a situation where it might be useful. I am trying to recover some files from a Macbook and I'm having trouble booting Puppy Linux on it from my USB flash drive. I usually use it to recover files then back it up on messed up PCs but this time it's a Macbook.. Is there away to install Pup Linux onto my USB flash drive using the universal installer that would allow it to boot on a Macbook? I'm pretty use the filesystems are different which would make it a bit less compatible so that is why I am asking you folks for advice!

exProphecy, i seem to remember having no joy firing up on Mac from usb, but this was on a desktop, so i don't know about MacBook...i was able to boot Puppy from CD though. Using rEFIt, i completely formatted and repartitioned the Mac drive with separate partitions for Mac, various Puppys and data. Mac uses the HFS file system, by the way..

Sorry about the late reply. Been busy with work. Well, I was actually able to boot into Puppy Linux using a CD ONCE. But for some reason now, when I choose the CD, it freezes and the CD keeps spinning. When I try to boot from a USB drive (using mbr.bin from the Universal Installer), it doesn't even show up. Should I be using a different mbr since it is Mac?

EDIT: Actually, to update on this, I am trying to boot from the Recovery HD but now neither the Recovery HD nor the regular HDD is showing up at boot.. I think I remember I MIGHT have set the "boot" flag under manage flags in Grub Partition Manager............. omgah did I mess it up?? Now I can't even boot into Puppy Linux thru CD DOH

Power up holding the option (alt) key. The mac will search for every bootable device.

I did that and it shows the Puppy Linux CD as "Windows" and no other drives then when I press it, it just freezes then reboots..

yes fatdog uses refit to boot in EFI

So if I burn fatdog onto a CD and try to boot on the MacBook, will it have a better chance of booting than regular Puppy Linux?
