I use my USB drive on multiple computers, mostly laptops. And most don't have sound or network drivers. Lets start with the one I have around the most.
It is a Lenovo X1 Carbon
First Issue I'd like to look at is network, either wired or wireless. Sound also doesn't work.
Slacko Puppy 5.7

Installing Sakura from here might make this easier but I can't guarantee it will work on your version of Puppy.
Is this your laptop here? If so, some of the hardware might still be a bit too new for drivers to have been developed for Linux. There's usually a lag time there.

misjudgedinall, almost 3 weeks have passed. We can't help if you don't respond.
With a laptop as modern as yours, it's certainly correct that you should be using the latest Slacko, but just as importantly, you should be using the PAE version of Slacko, which is designated 5.7.0.
The non-PAE version of Slacko (which has an older kernel) is designated 5.7.
I just Googled your hardware specs now, and it appears that both the wifi and LAN devices should be supported out-of-the-box by Slacko 5.7.0.
If not, you should at least tell us what network interfaces you see listed in the Network Wizard.
