Subject description: Cups fails to recognize printer

Slacko64 runs faster on my machine than any other puppy except Quirky, and since Quirky is no longer an maintained distro I would like to use Slacko64 as my main OS. However, Slacko64 does not recognize my printer (a 32 bit HP 5610), nor am I able to install a PDF printer.

Searching for a solution I failed to find a 64 bit driver for this printer-distro combination, and in fact no mention in the forum of anyone else with a printing problem with Slacko64. I did discovered a 32-bit compatibility package for Ubuntu, but nothing applicable to puppy.

Have I an unique problem with this HP printer, or is there a systemic shortcoming in Slacko64. or possibly a fix which I have not found?

How is it connected? There is an outstanding issue with parallel port printers in the current 32 and 64-Bit test builds of Slacko. Try typing the following at a command or terminal prompt:-

Code:

modprobe ppdev
modprobe lp

Then try the procedure you normally use to set up the printer, including the installation of any required driver pets.

You should report this problem in the Slacko64 thread.

I downloaded a new copy of the iso, and CUPS now works perfectly. I feel dumb for not doing this sooner.

Thank you for the time you took to reply.
