USB keyboard help in Puppy 1.09

#1 Post by rimfirehunter »

I have Puppy 1.09 installed on my hobby room PC, cant upgrade any further because the CD Rom is dead on this motherboard. Anyway, I have a USB Keyboard and 1.09 does not set it up for use upon bootup. I tried using the GUI keyboard setup feature but when it will not enable the USB keyboard.

So I use my PS2 keyboard, type in "modprobe usbkbd" and "modprobe keybdev" in a terminal window and the USB keyboard works. When I reboot the PC the settings are lost and I have to do it all over again.

Reason I want to use the USB keyboard is because certain keys on the PS2 keyboard do not work and I am too cheap to buy a new one...LOL.

When startup file do I edit so that when Puppy boots he starts my USB keyboard? And exactlly what to I enter into the edited file.

I put all stuff like this in /etc/rc.local

just put in each modprobe line exactly as you would type at command line
