Subject description: "File already exists - overwrite?" - Yes!Yes!Yes!Yeeees!!!!

This one drove me nuts for as long as I use Puppy. When copying a bunch of files that already exist in the destination folder, ROX would ask me again and again if I want to overwrite - despite having set the "Quiet" flag.

It seems that last month this bug has been taken care of: Don't confirm overwrites when copying in quiet mode. ROX development is moving slowly, but it 's still moving Very Happy
Let's hope that this fix quickly finds its way into new Puppies.

Just out of curiosity, have you ever tried the same thing with rsync? Copy Fast, which replaces the "copy" option in the ROX right-click menu, uses rsync. I use Copy Fast, though I don't recall ever using it to overwrite existing files. I use it because it transfers the files in a folder in alpha-numerical order from beginning to end, not the semi-random order that the standard ROX copy does.

for anyone who wants to try here's the bug fixed rox .... this pet only overwrites /usr/local/apps/ROX-filer, and it doesn't have any of the other stuff like .desktop file so is just for testing purposes. back-up before installing, and you may need to restart x after installing. only tested in tahrpup.
https://www.dropbox.com/s/7tkny28i4lvrbvp/rox-filer-2.11_quietcopy_fixed.pet

this has the 'running as root' warning removed though not barry's second hack .. as documented here http://bkhome.org/blog/?viewDetailed=02053

Thanks. I didn't install the whole pet, just pulled the binary /usr/local/apps/ROX-Filer/ROX-Filer from it. Works nicely in Slacko5.6.
What is the 1.6MB /usr/local/apps/ROX-Filer/ROX-Filer.dbg ? Do we need this file?

ROX-Filer.dbg -that's the binary with debugging symbols included. No you don't need it.

Hmm, works only with files, not folders, but anyway it's whole lot better now.
Just had to untick "Auto-start (Quiet)" for "Copy" action as it is starting to overwrite without (initial) asking, what may not be desired behavior...and now it's asking for confirmation even if there's nothing to overwrite (it's hard to please me these days...).

Anyway, another thing that has been fixed is 'total freeze' when entering /proc dir with Thumbnails turned on - that was very annoying.

I compiled it in Slacko-5.7.0, but applied also (apart of "root warning") the other patch ("Send To" -> "Open With") + these:
http://bkhome.org/sources/alphabetical/r/rox-filer-default-settings.patch
http://bkhome.org/sources/alphabetical/r/rox-filer-20111022-modify-columns.patch
The second patch enables reordering of columns in "detailed view".

The attached is only the main binary.
Unpack, copy to /usr/local/apps/ROX-Filer/ and restart X (or killall ROX-Filer; rox -p ~/Choices/ROX-Filer/PuppyPin).

Greetings!

Hi all,

The pet from 666philb works with Precise 5.6 but, as SFR wrote, its effect is limited to files (not folders) and if all the chosen files in the source are in the target there is an automatic copy [without any option to "move"].

My regards

Firstly, I can't find a difference between your and 666philb's version (only with regard to copy, I noticed the other patches which seem to work fine)

Well, it does work with folders. The thing with folders: It always asks if it should merge. It doesn't ask if it should overwrite. But once you agree it will quietly copy the folder contents, whereas before ROX would ask before copying any item in the folder. So this is a big step forward. I assume that all actions (like "merge") that can't be explicitly be quieted in the options will automatically trigger a confirmation dialog. In principle not a bad concept.

I noticed another change: Right-click "copy" does not select the basename (without extension) anymore. I see the selection for a split second before it unselects.

There is no difference in this regard (copy).
My comment regarding "Auto-start (Quiet)" was about setting it manually in ROX's options, I didn't hardcode it in any way.

Yes, unless there are another subfolders inside. That was my point.
But yeah, although still not perfect, it makes the life a bit easier now.
Despite all those little annoyances, I find ROX-Filer to be the fastest - not only objectively, but mainly in terms of handling - file manager.

Can't recreate - works ok for me in both versions...

Greetings!

Ah, I see. Turns out that this is caused by the new Parcellite 1.1.8 submitted by Médor. The unselect effect occurs when I let parcellite use the clipboard and the primary selection...
