How can I get a Canon LiDE 220 scanner working?(Solved)

What works, and doesn't, for you. Be specific, and please include Puppy version.

How can I get a Canon LiDE 220 scanner working?(Solved)

#1 Post by superchook »

I have a Canon LiDE 220 scanner which is supposed to be supported by Xsane.
Neither Xsane nor peasyscan fiind it when running tahrpup 605 or tahrpup64 605. The genesys driver is supposed to be required.

Has anyone got this scanner working under puppy?

Your source for information about print/scan in Puppy is here. It will take you to a page for Canon LiDE scanners and a driver PET. I believe that it will recognize your 220 model.

This is a 32bit driver.

I have good success using this program with my Tahrpup systems:

http://ubuntuhandbook.org/index.php/201 ... ntu-14-04/

worked right away in Tahr 6.0.5. I am using scangearmp-mg2500series-2.20-1-deb.tar.gz

@rockedge: Please read How to Install your Printer in Puppy. It explains how the standard Canon drivers are not compatible with the LiDE series.

How can I get a Canon LiDE 220 scanner working?

Some Progress.

I have installed the sane_backend_lide110-1.0.26.pet as suggested by rcrsn51. Peasyscan and Xsane both can now find the scanner. Unfortunately neither seems to be able to capture an image. You can hear the scanner working but the preview is blank. If you save a scanned image the file produced is small but does not appear to contain an image.
I have FatDog64 on a DVD so booted that. It has Xsane installed but the results of trying it are the same, the scanner seems to scan the input page but does not capture any data. I will have access to a Windows 7 computer next Tuesday so should be able to see if the scanner works under that OS. In the meantime are there any log files etc. that I should be examining?

SANE has released v1.0.27, so I have built a new genesys-LiDE driver from it and posted it here.

This works for me in Tahr605 with an LiDE 110.

But there was also a successful report for the 220 using the 1.0.26 driver.

Many thanks rcrsn51.

I tried both your latest pets in order and _still_ the scanner was heard to be scanning but did not capture anything.
Then when moving the scanner I discovered a slide switch underneath with a two padlock symbols. The switch was set next to the locked padlock and moving it to the unlocked position allowed the scanner to actually work. (Much embarrassment)

I imagine it would also have worked with the 1.0.26 version which could also find the scanner. (see my earlier post above)

That's good news. I looked underneath my 110 - I had forgotten that the switch was there. I will add that information to the instructions in the LiDE thread.

In any case, it was worthwhile updating the driver to v1.0.27.

I have attached below the 64bit version of 1.0.26. It should work in Tahr64. Please test.

Limited testing shows that the 64 bit sane back end provided by rcrsn51 above worked with the Canon LiDE 220 scanner.

cheers,
Ken
