couldn't get the vlc packages from the ppm to install, but vlc-2.1.5-x86_64-1alien.pet works.

can't get sound on zensound, can't get recoll to compile correctly (i think that's the one that gave a Glib error--it's outdated or something). firefox, internet, and video worked out of the box. the machine seems to run quicker and quieter than under precise 5.6.1, but that may be in part because it's asked to do less (i'm running about three fewer things than usual). it hasn't got as much ready made software as the other puppies, but it seems very stable, quiet, and quick. swapping pinboards and restarts to jwm are handled with relative silence. switching the gtk theme took away my ability to switch rox icons, but i like the flat gray rounded theme. been running strong for six days, handles pet installations and uninstallations well. i'm booting off a cd on a frugal saved to a folder. i'm not sure if the save file icon was supposed to have disappeared or not, but it's not a big deal with winkey+v as the partview shortcut. it gave the remaining partition size as the folder size for the first couple of restarts, but subsequent boots had no tray icon.

couldn't get firefox's flash to work or a download for it to install with any available pets or flash installers, but flash works with peebee's chromium64_with_pepperflash_38.0.2125.101.sfs

There is a wvdial bug that is present in fatdog700 (all test versions), this is present also in slacko64, but not in Tahr Pup

When I try to connect my laptop with Vodafone network using wvdial or FatDog dialer, I obtain this error message:

This is randomly present in other Puppies, but I don't know if is kernel related.
Another caveat: I can't connect with Network Wizard (net-setup.sh), PC refuses connection.

In FatDog64 (6.31 version) I can connect my PC using net-wizard.sh script (that doesn't exists in 700).

With this problems i can't test adequately FatDog700 with no Internet connection.

FatDog630 works flawlessly in both situation (3g and wifi internet connection)

the devx was loaded--haven't run slacko64 in a few weeks so i don't specifically remember what or when it failed.

could also be a case of my newbieness coming through--at the time, i think it was maybe my third or fourth attempt at compiling anything, and i'm still surprised when i succeed (now maybe five compiles later). wish i remembered....

Slacko64 has the same problem on bootup with multiple savefolders/files when using a usb keyboard that I reported for TahrPup6:

Basically, if you have multiple savefolders and a usb keyboard that needs a special driver then it is not possible to select the required savefolder as the keyboard input is not recognised......some generic usb keyboards do work for others apparently but my generic-usb wired keyboard doesn't....

AMD 64, NVidia, old CRT monitor, frugal using Grub bootloader

First boot locked up at graphical text screen
Added nouveau.modeset=0 boot parameter and boots further, but to a black screen.
Ctrl-Alt-Backspace out to command line, run xorgwizard and thinks for a second or two, shows Probing Video Hardware please wait, then crashes back to command line.
Tried booting with pfix=nox, looked to see if there was a /etc/X11/xorg.conf to delete - none found
Gave up and deleted

For this hardware its common to black screen boot. Fatdog 7 is about the only one I've come across that booted straight to desktop - I believe because it has mesa loaded in ??? (dumb end user that doesn't really know what he's talking about here).

Also noticed that it did hang around for quite a while at the searching for Optical part of the boot sequence.

• And, did you try the other PUPPY Slackware 64bit PUP, LightHouse64? Did you have the same result?

Both this distro and the LightHouse64 distros were accomplished in about the same time period and there was some exchange of ideas occurring back then.

I do (monitors), I haven't (tried Lighthouse), although as mentioned FatDog is fine.

Common problem with this CRT/Nvidia hardware and usually setting nouveau.modeset=0 does the trick after you drop to command line and xorgwizard. But in Slacko64 case xorgwizard doesn't run/work.

Just a quick test/observation from me really, as I'm content with Slacko 5.3.3 as my workhorse.

(Very) quick test of Lighthouse 64 Final. Downloaded ISO extracted contents to HDD and set grub to

I know I am new to this version and a bit late. But, I decided to try Slacko64 out. I have installed the devx.sfs. I could not find java. The gcc compiler can have a java plugin. Is java (JRE) available for slacko64? If the answer is buried, then please point me to it. Thank you in advance for any help on this.

There isn't anything in the Slacko64 repository but there is an sfs in the Fatdog700 repository that would be worth a try....

I do not think using Fatdog64 version 700beta, java squashed file system is a good idea. I know Fatdog64 uses the Linux From Scratch process to build the software and Slacko64 uses the Woof build process.

I did do some more research. Oracle has changed the software license and this prohibits the distribution of the binary with a Linux distribution. There is a tar.gz package for the latest version from Oracle. I have down loaded it. After I get it working with Slacko64, I will post instructions on how to added it to Slacko64.

Edit I did look at the Fatdog64 java sfs package and the Orcale supplied package. The fatdog64 sfs package has similar files and it setups the path to access Java. So, I tried the fatdog64 java sfs package. It does work so far. I have tested the installation with AngryIP IPscanner. No problems were found. This was a lot less painful that I thought.

I guess for my system, this is alpha software. I have found after about 6 to 8 bootups, I start getting failures to completely boot into the desktop. This is the second installation that this has occurred.

At first, I thought I may have done something to cause it. But, after the second installation, I have kept this install as clean as possible. When fatdog64 first came out, a similar problem occurred. It was tied to Raedon video. The present fatdog64, both version 700 and 631 do a early installation of the Radeon driver. I will try again, but, I think my experiment with slacko64 is at a end. If anyone has any suggestions for me to try, please provide them and I will try them out.

I.e. Slacko 5.7 had Mesa 8.04 and intel drivers sucks. I noticed enhancements after upgrading to version 9.2.5 (last supported) and 2.4.58, the same for radeon support (unable to boot on a AMD A-10 machine before that) .

I have an old MacBook (5 partitions, 1 UEFI, the rest Apple format, HD 160 GB, no room actually for Puppy in UEFI, all HD covered by Apple partitions).

Started with CD Slacko seems to run well.

I have used this distro. It is very nice and friendly. It navigates well for traditional PUP users with traditional structure and layouts on 64bit PCs with 1GB+ RAM.

LxPUP64 is a derivative of this distro with UEFI capability. I have been using LxPUP64 on the UEFI Dell I have. It works well with all the same traditional familiarities PUP users are accustomed.

And, this distro is built with SAMBA V4 which talks to all smb protocol devices ever built without issues.

As I understand, @01Micko, this distro's author, has a "builder" available in GIT for a WOOFCE generation of a more current SLACKO64, should that route be desired, also.

It says puppy_slacko64_5.9.1.sfs not found. Dropping out to initial-ramdisk console. . .
