PuppyOS MEDIA FIESTA WEEK Commences Aug 12, 2006 22:00 GMT |
|
The week August 12 - 18 will be the PuppyOS Media Fiesta Week, and will feature slideshows and streaming media about PuppyOS. PuppyOS enthusiasts will be hosting the media sites.
A teleconference among leading PuppyOS persons and CEOs of partner entities will also be featured during this week. Please use this link for emailing Raffy about this event.
For your contributed media, try this for starters: ftp://puppy:linux@ftp.servage.net . Alternative sites will be announced below this post.
SFS or dotpup add-ons to Puppy are also welcome...
Awards for contributed media will be discussed and solicited - stay tuned.
People who get to know PuppyOS are just too eager to have everybody onboard this new computing experience. For example discussions, please view the transcript of July 15, 2006 meeting.
More partners and supporters will be needed for getting users to know about PuppyOS: trainers, hardware suppliers, publishers, broadcasters, and most importantly, plain advocates - wearing shirts, singing songs, or handing out PuppyOS CDs and flyers. Cheers to PuppyOS!

At least three top executives representing users (University, City Government, and Technology Training Center) are keen about the teleconference.
As to media showing the virtues of Puppy, perhaps we have to start with no other than Barry and the enthusiasts themselves. Let me try this listing of possible video clips (or picture sequence with text):
- Crafting your own PuppyPC Box - by Dan (dvw86) - already existing
- PuppyOS starting and running in 400 Mhz thin client by Barry Kauler (Barry has one of these DevonIT units)
- Mutisession DVD testimonial - by Flash ("Hey, Flash is so fast you can't see him " )
- Gaming Bare Essentials in Puppy - by MU (a 3D 128-bit card, 700 Mhz machine and gamepup CD?)
- Podcasting with Puppy - by Lobster (hey, this must be the first item - some contributors may want to use pictures plus a podcast instead of video)
- Booting with 2 Puppies (CD with 2 versions of Puppy Linux) - by gliezl
- 400 Mhz comeback (from old Celeron to new thin client, 400 Mhz all; also showing how an old Celeron 400 does the job) - by me
Did I miss anyone? How about network booting, printing in network, using custom pup_save.3fs? Also videos by PuppyPC makers, like DevonIT, NorhTec, TranquilPC, Novatium? C'mon, guys, let's do it!

Teleconferencing |

Yes, thanks, Lobster, we need some help in rendering streaming media...
The teleconference will be about "PC innovations with low-power PCs and Puppy Linux" and target date is August 14 7:00 AM Perth Time, or August 13 23:00 GMT (24:00 if on daylight saving). This is 25 hours after our meeting (when we could do some testing, too).
Sponsors are welcome. Your comments are welcome, too.

Site Ready |
|
Thanks, Ian.
The MEDIA FIESTA site is now ready at http://puppylinux.org/fiesta
If you want to participate actively in the event and succeeding follow-up activities, just register.
One advantage of using DRUPAL is that once registered in any DRUPAL site (like here), you can join other DRUPAL discussions without registering anew, a real community treat.
And maintaining the DRUPAL site is really a breeze...

Everyone Loves Puppy
I always though Linux should be fast, simple and accessible. Maybe that is why after trying every major and many obscure distributions I settled on . . . [distribution ommitted to cause suspense]
. . . full story and yours awaiting adding . . .

Sorry, I completely forgot about that. Looking over the transcript though, I probably just would have added to the confusion I'm still not quite understanding this completely, but here are my thoughts so far:
I haven't used 1.09 in a while so I don't remember the exact appearance, but I'd suggest popping in a nice wallpaper and smoother desktop icons where needed. That way it will look finished and complete. If it even needs it. Don't remember. Oh, and re-enable the boot-up bark if it isn't already (uncomment the line that says "play.tcl" or something in /etc/profile). That is a good hooking point. Few things are better than an operating system that barks hello.
I agree games are important. Remember to throw in a mention of WINE, which allows both "productive" Windows stuff along with its games. Also, Wine makes it easier to phase into Puppy. They can keep the old apps and switch one at a time until they've completely converted to the antarctic-canine mentality. Remind them that there are Linux games too though. And Java, too. That's cross-platform. Good stuff.
A media blitz? Hmmm... well, I'll have to finish up some more of my site (re-coding the news system is next), then I'll put up a Puppy article and links on it. Maybe I'll make some more wallpapers and banners and stuff.
Any musicians out there? You could make some Puppy theme-songs or jingles.
Um... that's all I've got for now. As this thing goes and I start figuring out what this is all about I might get more ideas.
