Nice.

Only current observation:
  • System is smooth and stable
  • FirstRUN and other initial screen are gotten to, out of order. FirstRUN should be first.
  • Once a user has ever responded to FirstRUN, it should not repeat on desktop starts.
Internet use is swift across all mutli-tabs in a browser.

stemsee

#33 Post by stemsee »

Glad you like it!

1. FirstRUN is actually quicksetup, the other script is Welcome1stboot.

2. If you boot from the iso without a savefile then it will always show quick-setup. The script is in Startup and is called sns it removes itself! if you edit that file you can also change the order of quicksetup and welcome1stboot

3. Simple Network Setup opens up every xorg re/start for those who travel and always need to reconfigure the wpa security before connecting to a different wifi access point, as I do in the library, coffee shops and hostels etc. It is laptop friendlier! I like it!!

@Satori

acpi-cpufreq IS missing, I deleted some files trying to illiminate a menu entry dupication that was persistent, and then i didn't test it. Quite a few other errors which I am not getting! Try without the savefile first!

Here is a new initrd.gz You can load at boot two extra sfs modules just name them adrv_emseev2.1.sfs and ydrv_emseev2.1.sfs ...also this initrd doesn't specify DISTRO_VERSION and so doesn't try to upgrade any savefiles. It came from shinobar>saintless>stemsee>

I've just started using this one on the community centre computers, as an Internet cafe distro (replacing ecomoney's old one which was based on the 4.21 series of Pups.). It's early days so far but it looks very good.
Gigabyte M68MT-52P motherboard, AMD Athlon II X4 630, 5.8 GB of DDR3 RAM and a 250 GB Hitachi hard drive running Ubuntu 16.04.6, MX-19.2, Peppermint 10, PCLinuxOS 20.02, LXLE 18.04.3, Pardus 19.2, exGENT 200119, Bionic Pup 8.0 and Xenial CE 7.5 XL.

Nice to know that. I am very interested in the details of your internet cafe implementation. Keep us posted.

If you would like anything added let me know!

Thanks, but you couldn't really call it an "implementation" at this stage because it has no official approval. All I do is find a machine that's currently not working and boot up EmSee on it as a live disk.

I'll let you know about the extra features, but if you think in terms of what people who are used to Windows are likely to want and expect, and try not to stray too far from that, you won't go far wrong.

For example, when you insert a pendrive into a machine, does the distro not only load it automatically but display its contents on the desktop in the file manager? Can you then load the files in a suitable application such as Libre Office or Firefox simply by clicking on them?

Best,

CP .

pmount controls automount! I can add a script to open usb device in file manager.

Mimetypes association controls which programs open which types of file. I will make some solid and comprehensive adjustments for EmSeeV2.2 incremental update - which also has newer vlc, libreoffice, chrome, ppstrream. Added networktry with ip, Tor, browser. Removed abiword, pprocess, zarfy, arand (grandr is better)r, wcpufreq, reaper, QQ-en, seamonkey.

Here is the code for unattended live remastering on EmSeeV2+, it takes into account the combo boot files and does not include zdrv kernel-modules.sfs if a modules directory is found . Adapted by me, taken from nic007's original script.

EmSeeV2.2 is ready for uploading. This is the sweetest update ever!

Not only updated chrome, libbreoffice, pavrecord, precord, wine, gparted, UExtract, Packit, Cups, and other stuff, also removed, abiword, seamonkey, leafpad, other stuff ...

Added bleachbit, unattendedremaster, xvkbd, fixstatus (apt/synaptic fixer), ip net-tray (without icon?), firewall tray, peasywifi, pupsaveconfig, powerapplet, canon backend,

Improved puppypin selection including ppin, all menu entries have icons and in much improved order, frisbee!

BUT

also shaved 300mb off the iso ! ! ! now down to 2.2GB

Will be uploading tonight.

I recommend users run 'shutdownconfig' from a terminal before first shutdown to create a reliably loaded savefile. Pupsaveconfig is there but....try it.

Hello @StemSee.

This distro, thus far, bring a very responsive desktop that every user can enjoy. I like how the eSpeak application provide instructions, no matter, if the user is sighted, hearing, or NOT. This covers users with and without handicaps. (The OOTB speaker operation should not be muted, though.)

This is one of the few full-featured PUPs which adapts to all walks of users; namely those with/without Arts abilities, those with/without Handicaps, those with/without Linux in-depth skills.

Excepting for the placement of FirstRUN  I find this one of the most exciting distros in the kennel in its approach, flexibility, and its delivery.

Both this link and the one in the first post lead to the md5.txt file. Is there a download link for the new iso file? Thanks

Hi Step

After i uploaded the new iso remastered with Unattended-Remaster, my newest version, I found that wine apps stopped functioning so i deleted the link to the iso. I am currently fixing the problem and taking the opportunity to upgrade Skype to 4.3.0.37 and Samba, and Unattended-remaster script which now has neede boot files, and finds vmlinuz, initrd.gz and zdrv (kernel-modules.sfs) from the running system, to cauto create iso.

Please be patient. I will re-upload either tonight or tomorrow

However the link you are quoting is for skype-4.3.0.37.sfs and it is correct!!!
