The network_roxapp in Tahr Precise 5.8.0.8 complains error message when copying a file.

Icon fix, mount options, utf.8 as the default
network_roxapp-0.8-1-utf8.pet
http://shino.pos.to/party/bridge.cgi?puppy/opt/

I think utf8 to be the default because recent woof takes its default locale as en_US.UTF8.

Tried all the fix's mentioned here, still no printer recognized for the HP usb1050 all-in-one!

Simple 'Peasy Scan' 'DOES' recognize the printer and takes a scan but no print!!!

Xsane installs and makes menu entry but when clicked on, NOTHING!

Everything else tested appears to be working OK so far.

You can test save-to directory on Tarh Puppy.
save_to_directory-20140606.pet
http://shino.pos.to/party/bridge.cgi?pu ... psave_dir/

1. Install Tahr Puppy frugally on a Linux partition.
2 Boot Tahr Puppy with RAM mode ('pfix=ram' option).
3. Install save_to_directory-20140606.pet.
4. Shotdown or reboot and make pupsave as a folder.

a warning to people installing stuff from the PPM ....

some packages 'xbmc' for example have a libudev1 as a dependency. tahr puppy already has it's own libudev1 and installing the one from the PPM breaks lots of things .... network, sound & graphics.
so if you see libudev as a dependency untick it before installing your chosen package.

i'll fix this in the next tahrpup

@sszindian: Don't forget that some HP units need a reset after running in scanner mode before the printer will work again.

I did a clean boot of tahrpup-5.8.0.8.iso and added the gstoraster_s533-9.05.pet.

I installed my HP Deskjet f4280 using the version of HPLIP already in Tahr. It worked correctly.

I then did a simulated install of your Deskjet 1050. It also worked.

sszindian: Yes, well aware of that from the past, I reset and even rebooted several times.

sszindian: Where are you finding this? I don't see a menu entry for it in my 5.8.0.8 ?

If CUPS is auto-detecting the printer, it should appear at the top of the models list.

If you don't have an entry, how are you installing the printer?

Is your problem at the hardware device detection phase or at the driver selection phase?

sszindian: NO models list that I can see?

rcrsn wrote: If you don't have an entry, how are you installing the printer?

sszindian: By way of browser- http://localhost:631 Also tried by way of desktop 'SETUP' also tried by way of regular menu entry System/cups manage printing, then use 'Find New Printers' from cups.

rcrsn wrote: Is your problem at the hardware device detection phase or at the driver selection phase?

sszindian: It would appear that it's at the hardware device as the option to install the PDF printer is the only listing that I get that's available for installation.

Might be possible I have a BAD download or install of tahar??? However, everything else seems to work OK.

OK. If your problem is at the initial device-detection screen, then there is ZERO point to installing other driver packages.

I plugged a bunch of USB printers into my Tahr setup and CUPS auto-detected them all, even before I installed any patches.

So I have no idea why you have this problem. Have you tried a clean download and install?

I notice that seven people have downloaded the gstoraster PET. It would be really nice if some of them would report back. But that's the way Puppy development works.

rcrsn51...'thanks as always!'

I believe I'll try the fresh download and install before anything else, might get to that tonight... If you're getting working printers, good enough for me. Oh... I was one who downloaded that program.pet you mentioned but it made no difference on my end :( .

I know how that is. I had over a thousand downloads of slacko-5.7 alpha-beta-rc with the same 15 or so testers. It's always hard to say whether those folks that didn't report thought it was just great and didn't bother saying or thought it was rubbish and the same.

Anyway, back on topic, my cups shared printer (on my puppy NAS box) gets detected and prints ok in tahr.

Could you plug it in as a local USB printer and report back? That's the crucial issue here.

(1)Fresh download tahr-5.8.0.8 (downloaded with Racy-5.5, checksum varified)
(2)Created new savefile (different HDD)
(3)Installed hplip-14's (from rcrsn51 thread)
(4)Installed tahrfix-5.8.0.8.pet

Same as with previous tahr-5.8.0.8, cups will NOT recognize my HP USB 1050 All-In-One Printer!!!!!! Only available printer available for setup is the PFD Printer in cups.

I will have to conclude that it's 'tahr' that has the issue and not myself or my equipment.

Here are some things to try.

1. Go to the folder /usr/lib/cups/backend
2. Open a terminal
3. Type: ./usb

Does it find anything?

Then go to the folder /dev. Turn the printer off and on several times. Do you see the folder "usb" being created/deleted?

With your printer turned ON, type

Code: Select all

lsmod | grep usblp
Is this module loaded? If not, load it

Code: Select all

modprobe usblp
Check your printer in CUPS.

sszindian: Nope, not there!

Are you saying that your folder /usr/lib/cups/backend does NOT contain the executable file named "usb"?

If you do NOT have this file, then it certainly explains your problem.

But it does not explain why this file is missing. I have it in my Tahr.
Is this module loaded?
