This pAVrecord 9.0.4 one may work correctly in tahrpup but needs comprehensive testing by tahrpup users.

Installed from the PPM xscreensaver... it seems all the standard screensavers in it work as they should with the exception of the GL things (Carousel, Slideshow) Anyway the Carousel works BUT No Pictures display. We had this problem in Slacko's but 'SFR' came up with a fix there so Carousel works -
Code: (In Terminal)- su spot -c xscreensaver-demo - but this doesn't work in Tahrpup/
I've installed all the programs available for xscreensaver from the PPM so nothing is missing from there.
Any suggestions?
So far, Tahrpup is working well and no serious problems encountered to date... Your update stuff through quickpet is very nice, wish all developers would go that route!

xscreensaver is my arch enemy!! whilst trying and succeeding to get it working on precise i managed to mess up permissions throughout the whole system including my harddrives! and vowed never to have anything to do with it again

Any idea how to solve this? Used to Debian/Ubuntu and then usually everything is automatically downloaded and installed.
BTW... I did update the repository - that didn't work. It keeps on asking me to install the downloads local. And when I do it seems to do nothing (nothing is saved) |
hi Tm_mT,
i think i've fixed the problem and have put the fix in quickpet .... you'll need to update quickpet first... then install the tahrpup bug fixes from quickpet
can you let me know if it fixes it for you
thanks

Thanks a lot! That fixed it indeed. Nice updating / fixing method btw. You have created a very user friendly Puppy.
Had some issues with NFS itself, apparently NFS was updated so my usual mount command didn't work anymore.
mount -F -o nolock,soft,nosuid,intr mypc:/share /mnt/home/NFS seems to work though.

for the AMD driver, since the kernel is ubuntu-compatible, can't we just use the regular package?

hi eadmaster,
the amd driver is being a problem and i can't get it to compile with these newer kernels yet. unfortunately you can't use the ubuntu ones as the driver is kernel specific, so needs compiling against the tahrpup kernel.
when i get time i'll try and bulid an older kernel that it will compile against

TahrPup doesn't seem to be able to automatically shutdown my PC (ASRock Core 100HT-BD - Intel’s Core i3 CPU).

hi Tm_mT,
can you check if 'wake on lan' is enabled in the bios, and if so disable it .. then see if shutdown works then.
another thing to try is one of the other kernels see if that solves it http://ftp.nluug.nl/os/Linux/distr/puppylinux/puppy-tahr/kernels/ just unzip and copy the vmlinuz and zdrv.sfs over the installed ones then reboot

wake on lan is not enabled, but after rebooting I faced a more problematic issue. I had encrypted (light) my save file and after rebooting my password was accepted, but the savefile couldn't be mounted and a password was requested to solve the issue.
Tried the save file password and root, both failed.

some more detailed report:
This is the main part of the error message I got:
Performing a switch_root to the layered system general error mounting filesystem a maintenance shell will not be started, give root password...
Then tried to enter the encryption password, " root" and " puppy" => no luck

that's the problem with encrypted savefiles , they are liable to corrupt if there's an improper shutdown! for a password you could try woofwoof puppies default one.
concerning your shutdown problems, has tahrpup ever shutdown properly on your computer? or has it had this problem even on the first run?

Not sure, but I just ran TahrPup from ram and it shuts down correctly.
I also tried woofwoof as password and it was indeed accepted.
TahrPup started in safe mode(?) and I have no idea what to do next - I assume I should do a fsck? But is it possible to fsck an encrytped volume?

apparently you can, see last post .. http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=41918
i would be interested to know if you still have the shutdown problem with a regular savefile or save to folder option (recommended)

Thanks! Indeed it worked, well.. result was not what I hoped for. the encrypted file was after the repair still unreadable so I deleted the save file.

After above I installed TahrPup again with the "save to folder" option. This time no issues and my PC did shutdown correctly.
