I deleted my savefile and started fresh:

I opened PPM and installed kdegames, it wanted udev-136-w5.pet but it
couldn't download it so I downloaded and installed
udev-136-w5.pet,udev_DEV-136-w5.pet,and udev_DOC-136-w5.pet from the
Quirky packages common repo on ibiblio.
After they were installed I entered kdegames in PPM and downloaded all
the files that it needed but at the end it still needed a file named
virtodb... so I entered that and got it in PPM as well.
Kdegames is working now..I wonder if the missing udev-136-w5.pet was
causing problems with some of the other applications from my earlier
savefile.
I'll back this new savefile up now and try installing more
applications.
EDIT:
I installed Firefox from PPM and it works fine as does Palemoon, but if you run Quicksetup first run settings and chose to run internet apps as spot, both Firefox and Palemoon give an error when they are started (the firefox error sceenshot that I posted earlier).
EDIT2:
Firefox and Palemoon are giving the error again, kdegames has quit working too, so the dbus problem continues on the install that was working the next time it's booted up.

Chromium35with pepperflash works if I add this link:

Code: Select all

ln -s /lib/libudev.so.1.3.0 /lib/libudev.so.0
except for the maximise button when using Chromium's in-built window manager.

The JWM Configuration Manager seems to be missing....

Nice work Phil, I think this is going to be good!

I tried printing in Abiword and Geany and programs crashed (shut down). I tried in PeasyPrint and it worked. I tried:

Code: Select all

lp -d Brother_HL-1435_series /root/zdrv_test
(this is a network printer) at the command prompt and it worked. I figured the problem must be with the gtk printing dialog that opens in Abiword, Geany, etc. So I replaced the contents of /usr/lib/gtk-2.0/2.10.0/printbackends/ with the same files from PuppyPrecise and, it worked! :D I can now print from Abiword, Geany, etc.

Keep up the good work!

Cheers, J

Edit: I'm not using a save file so I made the change in an adrv file, thanks for including that btw. Now I'm having to run through the setup dialogs at boot. No idea why. But printing still works. :D

Same computer....live cd of 5.8.0.7.

Regular pfix=ram boot results in no graphical display and inability to get to xorgwizard.Hard poweroff.

Changing boot to pfix=ram, nox and manually choosing the nouveau driver achieves the correct screen resolution. Will try another frugal install now.

I did a new manual frugal install to an sdxc card.

From PPM I installed lxterminal and midnight commander, I installed
the devx and compiled FLTK-1.3.2,Dillo-3.0.4 and Htop-1.0.3.
Palemoon web browser is working fine.
I created a .spot-status file in /root and added dillo=false, then ran
loginmanager from the terminal and checked dillo so it now runs as
user spot.
After several reboots everything is good, I think I'll leave it as is
for now.

Very nice!

X might need some work since I managed to get it going only in VirtualBox, while it failed in VMWare and ParallersVM (BTW would be nice to also include the xorg-vmware-dvr)

After that was a smooth (but limited) ride.

It would appear that is build from the master branch of woof-CE. Correct?
Next time you may want to try the testing branch as it has a number of handy additions.

BTW, why is it in "Derivatives". Looks brand new to me :!:

I remastered my Tahr Puppy 5807 install to an iso and then burned that
to a DVD+RW.
The only extras in the iso are lxterminal, midnight
commander,ltris-1.019,htop-1.03,and dillo-3.04 + the devx was loaded.
The new iso is 354mb in size.
It's working great so far and if I break something I won't save the session.

5.8.0.8 on the dual-core with Nvidia graphics. frugal install still has immediate kernel panic while live cd boots and works fine.

Anyone had success installing on a box with Nvidia graphics?

Booting from cd with savefile on ext3 partition........ no kernel panic but only boots to a black display and the inability to try xorgwizard...... must do a hard poweroff. No force run of xorgwizard as intended.

More fun testing later.

5.8.0.8

Cups doesn't recognize my USB 1050 Deskjet All-In-One printer. Tried with 3-11 and 3-14 drivers and latest foo update from rscn51's thread. Even Blacklisted 'usblp' no-go so reinstalled it again, no-go.

PPM lists some packages as 'installed' but in fact they are not, a reinstall of the package corrects the issue.

Overall. a nice puppy so far, fast and so far everything else works fine... still testing though!

immodules.cache

#35 Post by shinobar »

Tahr Puppy 5.8.0.8 and recent Puppies have /etc/gtk-2.0/gtk.immodules and a link to it at /usr/lib/gtk-2.0/2.10.0/gtk.immodules.
But the Gtk2 in Tahr Puppy 5.8.0.8 actually looks /usr/lib/gtk-2.0/2.10.0/immodules.cache instead.

To see what happens:
1. Launch the Osmo('plan' icon on the desktop).
2. Open 'Notes' tab.
3. Add a note with any name.
4. Double click the new note.
5. Right click on the note editor.
6. Select 'Input Methods'.
You can see no options.

Make a link /usr/lib/gtk-2.0/2.10.0/immodules.cache pointing /etc/gtk-2.0/gtk.immodules, you can find options for the 'Input Methods'.
