Subject description: for novices

I was just asked how to use woof ce so i will share my response a brief, very brief one.

The documentation is in fact in the directories of woof CE. The scripts have plenty of comments and readme files. but in brief I will lay out the steps.

0) Pray to the True God for your plans to succeed, pray in the name of Yeshua!

1) Load your devx sfs file or install development libs gcc bacon etc.

2) Download Woof-CE from github....either master or testing branch - master is safest,...get testing from stemsee's branch (it just works and lots of DOTconfig files)! And also handles .tar.xz compressed kernel archives ... all kernel archives are now .tar.xz not .tar.gz (Do NOT use separate kernel kit ! !)

3) Unzip the download to a partition which is formatted ext 2,3 or 4 and has about 12GB free space.

4) go into the woof ce master directory.

5) go into the kernel kit directory. First build a new kernel.

6) use a text editor to open build.conf.

7) edit the kernel version (number) that you want eg 3.13.9 and save it. You
can erase the slacko-pae part. Also change the kernel url source to kernel_mirror="https://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/v3.x/"

8 open a terminal in this directory and type ./build.sh and choose from the list a DOTconfig file with version close to your chosen kernel. press enter

9) the kernel will be downloaded and patched, then choose 1) menuconfig,

10) Edit any settings, save and exit menuconfig.

11) Press enter to compile kernel, (pray some more!) have a cup of tea and stretch your legs! Could take an hour or so on a good pc.
12) Pc barks, = end of process. If aufs-util error don't worry. leave it.

13) enter directory ../dist/packages/ here will be the kernel_headers and linux_kernel directories - you can do dir2pet in a terminal.
Now you have your nice new kernel.pet (come back to get this in a minute.)

14) Go back to woof ce master directory.

15) Open a terminal there and type ./merge2out

16) choose x86 then again x86 then your distro (not all in the list are fully supported yet (mageia and ??) slacko is good ubuntu and debian too, t2 and ??

17) Now you need to go up one directory and see your newly created directory with the name of the distro you chose. Also there is a directory 'local-repositories'/x86/packages-pet and another folder for your distro packages which will be downloaded in these folders.

1Cool Get your kernel.pet and move or copy it to packages-pet directory.

19) Go into your new distro directory.

20) Read the readme file and follow those instructions. =
a) ./0setup
b) ./1choosepackages
c) ./1download
d) ./2createpackages
e) ./3builddistro
The .iso and devx and build files, vmlinux, initrd.gz, base.sfs will be in sandbox3/ (GiveThanks to the Creator - you cannot be thankful enough! just saying.)

Also thanks to Baryy Kauler, Iguleder, 01micko and others who contributed to puppy development and woof ce development. And consider making a contribution yourselves.
happy woof-ce ing

Nice how to stemsee,

While reading gave feel of easiness.
I am sure it will make people try woof.

Thanks.

Nothing wrong with a bit of divine help from time to time!

I think it was divine help that made me notice certain things so that I could use woof ce succesfully ... but a fast eye and good memory help .... I did go a bit mad at one two and three points!!! But as it is written 'Genius knows madness well, but madness knows not itself!'
