GMA 2004 for low-cost market. 900 was the first of the series. Use main memory, up to 128MB, instead of video memory.
Relies on the host CPU to do a lot of the graphics processing. (As do all video cards in linux using Flash).
GMA 900 series includes 910G, 915G, 915Gx.
So this is a slow video chip that uses a slow CPU to do a lot of its processing.
But Flash in linux uses the CPU not the graphics card for processing (SSE and SSE2 are both irrelevant).
Why is Flash better at youtube here and on other older laptops?

Re: Graphics of Dell Inspiron B130 and Pale Moon
Actually, Flash does try to use hardware acceleration, if available. The Flash config file is /etc/adobe/mms.cfg and it mentions hardware acceleration. Flash talks directly to the video chip to execute graphics primitives. HTML5 talks to the browser which talks to the WebGL driver which talks to the video chip. Flash was talking to the video chip before WebGL existed.sindi wrote:So this is a slow video chip that uses a slow CPU to do a lot of its processing. Can you try sulu 2? It supports acceleration on my T400 notebook, probably due to more up-to-date kernel and libs and drivers..
Palemoon for Carolina-Vanguard
Just a note that watchdog's "palemoon...precise" pet, available here, http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 157#936686 worked OOTB under Carolina-Vanguard.
Nice work, watchdog.

I made a post in RetroTechGuy's thread Chronic Firefox crashes - [Not solved - but Palemoon runs], recommending PaleMoon - which maybe deserves to be mentioned here also. The PaleMoon version is 27.2.1.
But I have a problem: How do I remove the 'Bookmark this page' and 'Go' buttons from the urlbar/address field? I have seen a recipe on how to make a userChrome.css file, and placed it in /opt/palemoon/browser/chrome/. It doesn't work, does anyone have a better recipe?
I cannot find any other chrome file in my LupuPlus 5.2.8.005-1, is there a better location? I have also placed a relative link to the file in the .moonchild productions directory.

Assuming that Pale Moon and Firefox haven't diverged too far yet, see http://kb.mozillazine.org/index.php?tit ... ntable=yes for info. You have to...
If that doesn't work, try the official Pale Moon forum. The Linux version subforum is https://forum.palemoon.org/viewforum.php?f=37
- dive into the specific profile folder
- create a "chrome" subdirectory in the profile folder, if one does not exist
- create file "userChrome.css" in the chrome subdirectory
If that doesn't work, try the official Pale Moon forum. The Linux version subforum is https://forum.palemoon.org/viewforum.php?f=37
Thank you, but you describe paths to what I already have done.
I must add that the userchrome.css file starts with:
@namespace url(http://www.mozilla.org/keymaster/gateke ... s.only.xul);
The only other placce I find 'chrome' mentioned at all, is in the file /root/.moonchild productions/xulstore.json. I don't know if that file can be modified.

Duck duck go set to less 18 years old,
Information Palemoon default browser in LXpup Xenial has Duck duck go set to less 18 years old, is you search movies on the web
DuckDuckGo -- Safe Search
Hi All,
I'm not sure where the indefatigable Pelo obtained the information that DuckDuckGo searches from palemoon and netsurf browsers are set to treat the user as being under 18 years of age, but I became curious.
A quick "google" -- never got beyond the first couple of links before changing the search argument-- revealed, https://duck.co/help/features/safe-search.
Safe search is DuckDuckgo's default setting, regardless of which OS or web-browser it is run from. It removes explicit content from results. It can be turned off. But, unless I'm mistaken, doing so will be a PITA. You have to append !safeoff to each search; but in theory, can turn it off generally. The latter isn't a setting of your browser which you can change by first typing about:config into the address box. Rather, you have to do so by opening this webpage: https://duckduckgo.com/settings.
Is DuckDuckGo being more intrusive than google? Is it keeping track on its servers who does turn off SafeSearch? And what else? How is that change communicated to one's computer, and where on the computer is it stored? I could find only one file relating to DuckDuckGo on my computer, an xml in /opt/palemoon.../searchplugins. It did not appear to me to have code relating to SafeSearch except perhaps as a consequence of searches being directed to DuckDuckGo's website. But, I'm not fluent in xml.
And I don't understand the reasoning behind DuckDuckGo's restriction. Yes, the WorldWideWeb has some nasty places and DuckDuckGo will protect our children from finding some of them. But, how do we compel our children to only use DuckDuckGo? Monitor their web-browsing activities (a good idea) and flog them if they ever use google, Bing etc? Also, perhaps, espoused as a good idea if you search "disciplining children" using other than DuckDuckGo.

My first guess would be that the preference is stored in a cookie.mikeslr wrote:Is DuckDuckGo being more intrusive than google? Is it keeping track on its servers who does turn off SafeSearch? And what else? How is that change communicated to one's computer, and where on the computer is it stored?
Pelo and I had a few posts here about DDG... it appears theres a European version of the site (either .eu or .nl) thats not quite right. Pelo had similar troubles, not being able to connect to certain sites when using that particular portal. I'm not sure if using DDG as a dot com circumvents this bug... it may route through the buggy portal.
Also, many of the "more secure" portals do just this, ixquick for one does, and yes, one does have to go into settings to disable family filters, and unrestricted search. In the case of ixquick, one can set a link to the settings, rather than use a cookie... or just reset to default upon each browser-close.

netflix with pale moon in lucid puppy?
I read that Netflix now works with HTML5 in Firefox 47 or later.
At the Pale Moon forum I read that it also worked with Pale Moon 26.5 (or later PM with some changed settings).
Does it work with Pale Moon in linux?
I tried both 26.5 and 27.2.1 and was told to get Silverlight.
Or to use HTML5 with Firefox 47 and they don't provide help for linux.
Lucid Puppy (GTK2) works with Firefox 45 ESR. Later versions require GTK3.
Netflix works in Tahr Puppy with Chrome 38. The slimjet website offers old versions of Chrome.
It also works with a fast enough android phone (1GHz is good, 800MHz is not).
By 2021 they will switch entirely to HTML5.

Pale Moon 27.3.0 released
Version 27.3.0 is available for downloading. This is a major development update with plenty of enhancements, new features and bug and security fixes. You may find the release notes for this version on the website: http://www.palemoon.org/releasenotes.shtml
If you have a Pentium4-class or later machine (i.e. SSE2 support) try the mainline version first. It may now work on Puppy. If it doesn't work for you, the 32-bit SSE-only version download URL is ftp://contrib:get@ftp.palemoon.org/SSE- ... 86.tar.bz2
Since this is not a mainstream build, it has to be installed manually. For manual install instructions, see the first post in thread https://forum.palemoon.org/viewtopic.php?f=40&t=13530

palemoon-27.3.0-p4-sse-glibc219tweak.pet
The tarballs of palemoon 27.3.0 are defective: the wrapper of xarchive exits in an expected end of file trying to extract the archives (32 and 64 bit) and libicui18n.so.58 is missing. Resolving the dependence from previous version of palemoon does not resolve the problem: dbus error in all versions of puppy. The SSE build is working in puppy4 with a glibc-tweaked package.

palemoon-27.3.0-p4-glibc219tweak.pet
Downloaded again from:
http://linux.palemoon.org/download/mainline/
and checked gtkhash: now working!
The following glibc-tweaked package is tested working in puppy 4.31 (which originally has glibc 2.6) with gtk+-2.18.3:
http://distro.ibiblio.org/puppylinux/pe ... 8.3-p4.pet
and glib-2.22.2:
http://distro.ibiblio.org/puppylinux/pe ... 2.2-p4.pet
Remember that it's a must to install dbus and dbus-glib in puppy4 and wary. They are needed. Search the forum for those packages.
It can work in other old puppies (even without the suggested updates for only puppy4) which don't match the official requirements. It uses a patched glibc from tahr. It is not an official build and use at your own risk with the usual cares about backup. Do not install this package in recent puppies: use in recent puppies the official tar.bz2 packages from:

The mainline i686 linux version of palemoon 27.3.0 continues to work in precise (glibc 2.15), so I think it has been compiled against the usual software environment.Pale Moon will not run at all without (reasonably updated versions of) the following dependencies:
GTK+ v2.24
GLibc v2.17
Pango
X.Org
libstdc++ 4.3

I am running a copy of 64bit palemoon 27.3 in Quirky SlaQ 8.1.6 x86_64 and Palemoon crashes often for no obvious reason.
When Palemoon crashes, it just cause the whole SLAQ OS hangs and the only solution is to unplug the electricity socket.
I have zoom page and ublock origin as palemoon addons
Anyone has similar experience ?

Are you running the official download or another version? What does "about:buildconfig" show for "Compiler" and for "Configure arguments"quirkian2new wrote:I am running a copy of 64bit palemoon 27.3 in Quirky SlaQ 8.1.6 x86_64 and Palemoon crashes often for no obvious reason.

I don't see anything obvious. You should probably try the official Pale Moon support forum, specifically the linux subforum https://forum.palemoon.org/viewforum.php?f=37
If you get a lockup, try "the magic SysReq key" first, for a cleaner, more graceful shutdown. See https://www.howtogeek.com/119127/use-th ... -commands/
Note: "SysReq" is usually also "PrintScreen" on PC keyboards. The reboot sequence is...
{ALT}{SysReq}R (and wait a few seconds)
{ALT}{SysReq}E (and wait a few seconds)
{ALT}{SysReq}I (and wait a few seconds)
{ALT}{SysReq}S (and wait a few seconds)
{ALT}{SysReq}U (and wait a few seconds)
{ALT}{SysReq}B
Write this down on a handy piece of paper. When you really need it, you will not be able to pop open Google to find the sequence.

Hi all,
Am curious if anyone else is seeing crashes in the latest 32-bit Palemoon version? On certain sites (especially major news sites), Palemoon is crashing left and right, yet when visited with the 64-bit latest Palemoon version (in one of my woof-CE 64-bit builds), nothing happens and Palemoon just works.
The crashes have gotten so bad for me across the 32-bit puppy woof-CE build landscape that I've had to ditch Palemoon altogether, and have installed Opera's latest 32-bit browser. Though I am wary of blink-engine browsers (for many reasons), I've been pleasantly surprised at Opera. And, it hasn't crashed once on me, despite running many tabs with lots of stuff going on. In Palemoon 32-bit, I can't even run one tab on some sites without it just winking off (this applies in Xenial & tahr & Slacko and Dpup 32-bit builds from woof-CE, which I do fairly frequently).

Nothing showing up in the official Pale Moon linux support forum https://forum.palemoon.org/viewforum.php?f=37 (for the official builds only), so this may be a WoofCE-specific issue. A few things to look at...belham2 wrote:Hi all,

- Are you using older libraries (i.e. an older Puppy) on the 32-bit machine?
- Can you post the output of about:buildconfig from the 32 and 64 bit versions, so we can look for differences?
- Try the 32-bit official tarball, available from http://linux.palemoon.org/download/mainline/ You can install it in your home directory. For any random directory "fubar"
- download the tarball to $HOME
- mkdir fubar
- tar -C fubar -xvjf palemoon-27.3.0.en-US.linux-i686.tar.bz2
$HOME/fubar/palemoon/palemoon -no-remote -p
