Pale Moon latest with updated Flash.
Hi,
Pale Moon default 26.2.1 in Xenial Xerus 7.0.1,
updated to 26.2.2. works fine.
Luckily under Menu Internet, there's a convenient Pale Moon
updater button showing six items of choice.
Also Add-ons Shockwave Flash is currently 11.2.202.621
downloaded normally through the system.
Enjoy.

running in Wary
I have Palemoon 26.2.2 running on an ancient Wary-based Puppy (Fluppy) via a GlibC 2.20 tweak. Took a bit of fiddling, but it works: I'm posting from it now. If anyone needs details, let me know. There probably aren't many Wary users still out there, I know.
It runs fine on a 900MHz Asus Eee PC 900 as well as faster Core 2 Duo laptops. Noticeably faster than FF 45.2.0 ESR, which is probably the last FF I'll be able to run on this OS.

not a lot of options; i wont use chromium because its no longer fully supported, and installs blobs. i wont use chrome because it is a blob, and i dislike mozilla because theyre abandoning any kind of reliability in terms of privacy or ethics or standards.
that leaves derivatives of webkit and mozilla, and palemoon and seamonkey are still two projects i take seriously. i dont love the bloat, but palemoon seems decent. i would support it over ff at this point.

I originally did a temporary tweak for GlibC 2.11.3 some time ago (see this page: http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... start=1065), but now I've also got it working for 2.20 in a similar way, using the GlibC 2.20 PET from here: http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?p=806989. I don't install the PET because that would mess up this Pup's existing GlibC. I just extract it to a temporary directory and run:
Code: Select all
/tmp/glibc220/lib/ld-linux.so.2 --library-path /tmp/glibc220/lib/:/tmp/glibc220/usr/lib/:/tmp/glibc220/libstdc++/:/usr/X11R7/lib/:/opt/palemoon/ /opt/palemoon/palemoon "$@"
Plugins are run separately, so to get the Flash player and other plugins to work I had to rename plugin-container to plugin-container-executable and then create a plugin-container script containing:
Code: Select all
/tmp/glibc220/lib/ld-linux.so.2 --library-path /tmp/glibc220/lib/:/tmp/glibc220/usr/lib/:/tmp/glibc220/libstdc++/:/usr/X11R7/lib/:/opt/palemoon/ /opt/palemoon/plugin-container-executable "$@"
Code: Select all

Your system might have other dependencies (e.g. a later dbus) but most of those can be grabbed from other distros as required.
Not too tricky...

Great, I'm glad someone found it useful.watchdog wrote: I was able to replicate your exploit with some personalizations in wary 5.5. Thanks for posting.
I'm pondering doing a full GlibC 2.20 upgrade on Fluppy to counteract the older GlibC vulnerabilities, though I'd prefer not to break the locales (I know there's a workaround, but that's all it is - a workaround). It would be nice if someone clever could recompile 2.10.1 with the security patch, since everything else I'm using works fine with that version.
Re: running in Wary
I am not skilled enough to compile a patched glibc but I have packaged palemoon-26.2.2-w5-glibc220tweak.pet which mostly works (report any problem). It is intended to run in wary based puppies, do not install in other puppies:ac2011 wrote:Great, I'm glad someone found it useful.watchdog wrote: I was able to replicate your exploit with some personalizations in wary 5.5. Nice one. I haven't tested it as my version's working fine, but it's good to see other people keeping Wary alive.watchdog wrote:I am not skilled enough to compile a patched glibc but I have packaged palemoon-26.2.2-w5-glibc220tweak.pet which mostly works (report any problem). Every other program I use (hundreds of them) works fine on Wary, so it seems dumb to upgrade the entire distro just to have a modern browser.
thank you. this is a very important package for any distro. it would be nice to know if it works in tahr (i could try it... it might take a while) but it is nice to know that racy users have it. (no sarcasm, its just a good browser.)watchdog wrote:palemoon-26.3.0 is out. I have packaged it for racy 5.5 with the glibc 2.20 tweak and it is working well.
I am not an archaelogist: I simply think that there are out there many guys still using such an old puppy as puppy 4.31. I remembered the following old post by dejan555:
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 177#807177
and crafted a palemoon 26.3.0 with a glibc 2.19 tweak which works in my puppy 4.31 and which I want to share. Is this the right place? In the meanwhile I am uploading the package I post my user-installed-packages:

Palemoon-26.4.0 is out. I hope it will not soon updated. I have crafted palemoon-26.4.0-p4-glibc219tweak.pet which is intended only for puppy4 and wary: do not install in more recent puppies where the official tar.bz2 release works fine. Enjoy.
