wifi dongle for Slacko puppy 5.7.0?

#1 Post by boof »

MUST provide WPA2/PSK TKIP encryption, as that's all my ET T45 can provide.
pls recommend me something common & cheap to do the job. I'm using a Toshiba Satellite L300. Onboard WiFi card (Atheros 5xxx) doesn't have suitable driver OR I'm doing something wrong.......

Your L300 should have an Atheros AR928X (not 5xxx) wifi chipset, supported by the ath9k driver which is standard in all modern Puppies.
You should run the "dmesg" command to check whether this interface/driver combination initialises OK.

I also just read that the initial release of the L300 BIOS fails to properly support some ACPI routines under Linux, which is likely to cause your fan to never work properly, and might also be a factor if the onboard wifi is actually faulty.
So you should definitely upgrade your BIOS - especially in the case of the fan, which could cause your laptop to cook.

Thankyou very much for fan info. I do notice it's running, but not always, and not terribly fast?

Re wifi--read the docs, and found Ath5xxx does what I want, and set it up. It's working perfectly.

Will try to upgrade bios.

EDIT:
BIOS update not avail Toshiba.com.au.
