Yeah I tried Yudit already, It was really heavy on the RAM, didn't like it at first glance, also couldn't write in Hebrew. Maybe if that's the last resort.
I'll also try the Windows application I was using - "PolyEdit", with Wine; maybe it will be tastier.
I also prefer that they will be lite.

Wrote "Eclipse" too.

Thanks.

This module provides basic support for the Unicode bidirectional text (Bidi) algorithm, for displaying text consisting of both left-to-right and right-to-left written languages (like Hebrew and Arabic.) It does so using a swig interface file to the libfribidi library.

Eeem... I probably didn't mention it, but I need a regular text editor; not for programming.
Vim is 25mb; the second one seems pretty complicated.
In Package Manager I see that I have "Fribidi - Unicode Bidirectional algorithm library" installed. But how do I use it?!

Thanks L18L. Don't know how serious the support in that is, or weather it has Hebrew; but will I be able to install one of those files; and which extension to download?

I have found (in precise5.7.1) there is a pet version 0,5,9-1 for katoob in Puppy Package Manager.
install libgtkmm-2.4 and its dependencies and then install katoob.

Hope it works also in slacko

EDIT
No it is not in slacko's repo

#23 Post by L18L »

downloaded source

http://sourceforge.net/projects/arabeye ... z/download

and compiled in slacko5.7 (you need devx_slacko_5.7.0.sfs loaded)

./configure
make
make install

executable is in /usr/local/bin/ and seems to work

Hope to see a langpack_he sooner or later
Don't forget to make kaboot your defaulttexteditor if you will be using MoManager.

Hi L18L; I don't know how to install it. I looked on the web about this; but found only a way to install with PupGet; I don't see that I have this.

How do you use Fribidi? Why, with Abiword. I'm sure that's why it was included.

Before you install it you should compile it

You need devx

Then download the source

then compile source
cd to downloaded source

./configure
make
make install

then it will be installed in /usr/local/bin
A click on katoob in /usr/local/bin will launch katoob

Hope this helps

Thanks L18L.
I was looking for other text editors, and downloaded "Beaver", which works; and apparently LeafPad also has almost the same capabilities; though I think I prefer Beaver.
The reasons I thought they don't work were that no program yet was able to open and display Hebrew in my old files: RTF and Doc; and it just automatically starts a new line from the right - if I start typing in Hebrew, and from the left - if I start to type in English.
It's also possible to add a right to left invisible symbol and to start from English from the right, for instance.

So if you'll encounter someone who has problems with this matter - you can tell them that LeafPad or Beaver work.

A few questions I need to find out:
Is there a keyboard shortcut to start from one of the sides; like in Windows - the left Ctrl+Shift starts from left, and the right Ctrl+Shift starts from from the right?
And how to open the RTF and Doc files and see the Hebrew?

So if someone happen to know - please tell me.

People are really helpful on this forum; my hat's off to you.
