Smalltalk

#1 Post by Lobster »

Tried to install squeak (a smalltalk language)
the rpm's are here
http://squeakland.org/plugin/installers/ux.html

after downloading the dotpup rpm expander I found everything expanded OK but probably put it in the wrong directory or some such basic mistake.

If anyone was able to do this it might be an interesting addition to Puppy. There are two versions and the one that takes over and runs from the browser (reconfiguring it into practically a whole OS environment) is quite intriguing and used to be a 4 meg plug in - the full Squeak is 10 or 20 meg.

Smalltalk is a very different programming language. It is sadly painfully slow at times and totally bewildering even to experienced programmers.

I have to admit I was unable to use it to code anything (when I first looked at it) but as it is designed for kids, it is certainly fun . . .
here are some screen shots

It will start local if you do it from rxvt and give it it's Gplugin.image as parameter . Or you rewrite the starter . I cann't get the browser plugin running . It seem to me the the plugin try's to get the wrong image .
I read some of the web's and it seem to my and combinations of Smalltalk mix't with the idea's from Logo and Rebol .
