New linux user here. I have been using pupply linux 5.2.8 for a few days now. I burned this iso to CD and booted my computer. I still have my original settings/look coming from my lupusave file. So stupid question here, how do I now utilize this iso to look like XP? Thanks.

So I renamed my pupsave file with .bak and then at the boot menu I typed puppy pfix=ram. I can get this puppy to load and really like it. When I shutdown I was prompted to save my personal files and settings in a save file which I do. When I later start back up I don't have the new XP puppy but rather something that looks like the default puppy with the XP desktop image. Can anybody tell me what I'm missing on this installation????

Dear bbbjgo91!
I'm sorry, but I have no neither my time, neither my proper language knowledge for more detailed description - but look at these:

You will all need these.(on Lucid)

Hi csipesz,

Just a query,
clicking start/multimedia/audacious brings up winamp.
It should bring up audacious.

Although I note the package manager contains audacious
I thought I would ask you first---------
So how do I launch audacious without bringing up winamp?

Best regards.

Hi, Rodney Byne.
This not a real winamp, just a winamp skin.
Click on it with right mouse button, go into settings and change from classic winamp interface to gtk interface, if disturb you the winamp-look...

Hi csipesz,

Thanks for the advice.
No, Winamp doesn't disturb me at all, it's fine.
Takes me back to happy earlier years with Windows XP.

In fact this distro I found in the puppy archive site
is lovely, so nostalgic to use.
It seems as close to the real thing as you could possibly get.

Incidentally, how can I enable start-up sound XPin.wav
on boot up please?

Thanks for your help.

there should be a file in /root/startup called 0_sound with this command...

#!/bin/sh
aplay /usr/share/audio/XPin.wave &

Does it not play at boot?

I don't use this os but I remember a while back I had to change the program that was used from aplay to bplay. Don't recall the issue but it worked. should be in the package manager.

Thanks spiritwild,

I tried your suggestion above in both a and b modes but neither worked.
It seems additional commands are needed elsewhere to complete the process
but not being a coder or compiler, this is way over my head.
Regards.

hi, Rodney Byne, I settled an application on this aim: his name pstartupsound. Try using this(a bit buggy, but not very...).
The sounds place: /usr/share/audio
