Have made some progress ( I think)

Found something called Blueman r708 in the slackware repo's...

installed it and recommended dependent pkgs...

I now have a menu item called bluetooth manager which clicking does absolutely nothing ...

another check of dependencies reveals missing lib... libpython2.7.so.1.0

am searching for this now ...no luck yet

Uh, among other things, I'll venture to guess Python's in the devx here.

python 2.7 sfs if that helps...

If its any comfort i gave up on bluetooth also.... I even managed to get some headphones working but the range was abysmal anyway after all the effort and the driver only worked when it felt like it. I also had the same dismal results on windows. Seems like bluetooth is in the domain of phones and similar devices due to the proprietry nature of the software involved.

Thanks for the hints ...and links ...I'll bookmark them for a later time

Just getting my headphones to work was the main goal ATM...
The combo of the dongle (trendnet tbw-106ub) and headphones (Sony mdr-r1bt) does work on aWin7 machine and from what I've read works fine on some version or other of "buntu" OOTB...

Perhaps I'll revert back to Lucid 3hd or other "buntu" flavor puppy and try there....

Thanks again

Just a side note: From a n00b point of view .... this having to learn how to put the car together before you can drive it ...kinda sux ! ... and IMHO why most M$ converts never get out of the garage and happily go back to cruising

I have my BT Keyboard working in 5.4 - no guarantees but it might work on 5.7

Figured it out a couple years ago. It occasionally won't work on boot but *usually* I can get it to work by just ctrl+alt+del and hitting xwin and it then works. If not then I go to the console and try some of the commands listed above. This is just the short version(details and console commands on link above):

1)
Open Puppy Package Manager

2)
Install the following
Bluez firmware
Bluez libs and utilities
bluez hcidump (may not be needed but it won't hurt)
Bluetooth-0.4.pet from here: http://www.smokey01.com/stu90/dpup.sque ... th-0.4.pet

3)Reboot

Good luck!
