flash updating

#301 Post by 8-bit »

Geoffey has made two versions of a flash updater that work for mozilla browsers. Not sure about chrome being done automatcally though,
They are available at http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... =781766859

Hope that helps.

Hi 8-bit,

Thanks for highlighting those alternative flash updaters.
They may come in handy should Adobe make more changes which result in the getflash-1.5-6.pet ceasing to function.

Explanatory note:

All versions of Blue Pup use Chromium (Version 32.0.1700.107) rather than Google Chrome hence the need to keep
Flash updated.

In Blue there is a preset bookmark within Chromium "Adobe - Flash Player" that allows you to check the currently installed version
and the latest available version. It targets this site:
http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/
The shots below shows 11.2.202.491 installed and 11.2.202.508 available.
Time to run "GetFlash". :)

Subject description: Can't change location
I don't know what I'm doing wrong, but in the previous version of Blue Pup (v.5) I could change the default displayed location in the Weather tile in Metro, but try as I might, with v.6 I just installed on a 16GB USB stick, I can't make it "stay changed" at all. Any one have any clues as to what I'm doing wrong? I'm really tired, so maybe a good night's sleep may fix it!
Thanks to anyone having any hints on this.

Sincerely,
revbish
Hi revbish,

1. Access Chromium's Settings via its "hamburger" menu.

2. Navigate to Extensions/newmetroTab/options/Live Tiles/Weather.

3. Type Bethlehem in the Search Location Box, then select your particular Bethlehem from the list in the second Select Location box.

Return to the Metro interface and the live tile should change after 6 seconds.
Left click the tile for a full screen display of your weather.

Blue Pup V6 Released 11th Oct 2014 32-bit

Hi Max,

I assume that you created a working USB stick of Blue Pup V6.
The instuctions for transfer are detailed here: http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 231#763231

They gave 3 options of which I only descibed the easiest - option 2. You seem to have used option 1 and "done your own thing" by attempting to use grub/grub4dos which will not work with an f2fs partition as it does not support it.

To correct things:

1. Create a new partition table on the hard disc, then a single f2fs partition on the hard disc.

2. Copy ONLY the complete contents of the 2nd partition on the working stick to the hard disc.

3. Change /boot/syslinux/syslinux.cfg on the first partition of the working stick to read as follows:

Code: Select all

# Boot Blue Pup ETP March 2014
# default /vmlinuz root=PARTUUID=82819859-02 rootwait rw # Original single active line
default /vmlinuz root=/dev/sda1 rw # New active line
4. Boot from the modified stick ensuring that the stick is at the top of your BIOS boot order.

(N/B The stick layout in this Pup is a full install in contrast to Chromebook Pup V2 which is a frugal install)

No ETP Sorry I Guess I Misunderstood, I was Under the impression that the Reason yoU Referred Me 2 that Thread was that yoU'd Built ChromeBook Pup Based on Blue Pup & that the installation Processes were the same?

I Did Use Option 2, Not Grub, I'm Not Surprised about your assumption that I'd used Grub Considering the " grldr ", it's a Mystery whY?

BTW I am getting a Yellow Triangle & eXclamation mark Under Partition in GParted Beside /dev/sda1, information Warning: Complaining it's Missing f2fs-tools.

Hi Max,

I fear that I confused you pointing at this thread.
The intention was to show the general principles involved i.e. copy the
stuff on the 2nd partition of the stick to the HD and then boot the HD
from the USB stick with a modified syslinux.cfg.

Let us just deal with Chromebook Pup and I will later today post in that thread
with another possible line of attack. :)
