What works, and doesn't, for you. Be specific, and please include Puppy version.

CPU frequency scaling Pentium M 735 dothan

#1 Post by gabitop »

Hi, i installed Puppy Wary 5.5 on a old laptop ,everything works really good except the CPU frequency scaling.

Laptop Amilo Pro v2030 with CPU upgraded to Pentium M 735 1.7Ghz Dothan

The problem is the Bios acpi table, from what i researched.
I tried all available bios without success.
The CPU works always at 600Mhz because of this.

I found this patched speedstep-centrino.c http://home.arcor.de/da.phreak/speedstep-centrino.c ,problem is i don't even know where to start to apply it to puppy.

I can fix it in a arch based distro(yaourt does all the dirty work really) applying a speedstep-centrino patch https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/speedstep-centrino , but it runs to slow on this laptop.
I really want to use puppy wary.
I tried over 20 distros and puppy is just way faster then any other distro on this laptop,
not to mention that i get 10x more fps from glxgears after installing the 5.5.1 patch in puppy compared to all others.

So if anyone can help me, i would be really appreciated.

PS: sorry for my English xD

I don't know how to help you with the scaling but I want to ask why you chose Wary. I am using Puppy Precise 5.7.1 and it shows my cpu at 1.5GHz all the time. Beginner on Puppy as well so not sure what the difference is between Wary, Slacko and Precise.
