The JAVA library tree and Puppy Linux |
|
Great instructions from @ScsiJon highlighting the need for a standard consistent library structure across PUP distros to make upgrades simple and easy.
I have often wondered if debian and slackware place JAVA using the same library tree? Or is there placements consistent with Oracle presentation of JAVA tree structure the same? And, is that consistent with OpenJAVA library tree?
If so, PUP's job for JAVA and upgrades would become simple.

jre-1.8u65-i586.sfs |
|
Hi,
I uploaded jre-1.8u65-i586.sfs
Download from
http://www.smokey01.com/gjuhasz/packages/
Tested on Puli with games such as Minecraft.
Have fun!
Regards,
gjuhasz
Edit: I corrected the above link because I moved my packages from smokey01.com/gjuhasz/sfs to here. The folder behind the obsolete link includes a pointer to the actual storage place. Sorry for the inconvenience.

It was my fault.
Yesterday, I moved my packages from smokey01.com/gjuhasz/sfs to the below link, which is OK now:
http://www.smokey01.com/gjuhasz/packages/
The folder behind the old link includes a pointer to the new one. I also edited my previous posts to correct the link.
Sorry for the inconvenience.
Have fun!

I created a 64-bit java runtime package jre-8u65-x64.pet and successfully tested with various complexity of java-based apps such as Calculator, Hudoku and Minecraft.
Uploaded to www.smokey01.com/gjuhasz/packages.
Have fun!

sfs downloaded without trouble |

sfs downloaded without trouble. Topic JRE opened in french forum forum francophone ici
Makagiga is really a nice ToDolist and graphism now is acceptable by our speedy Puppy Linux. .
JRE8u45Lin-i586.sfs: 53 M
Lot of JRE applications have alternative in our forum or PPM without using JRE. OSMO has been a nice todolist, by default in Puppy Menu for ... a long time
Will Makagiga replace it ? NO !

Hi boxR.
As a pet file? Yikes!
Make sure your pupsave has lots of free room, then. At least 189 Mb's.
Otherwise, use my sfs archive, referenced two posts above. That's why I made this
java JRE as an sfs, not as a pet.
Best regards.

Thanks @BoxR. This is just what I needed for a current PUP distro. I need permanence that a PET provides in the running system. I use folder-based save-sessions when saving to permanent storage.
I do understand how to use SFSs, but, much of what I do intends permanent deployment in as simple a click-to-permanent-install approach as possible. This is the other reasons I use PETs.
No offense to anyone!

No offense to anyone! | Hello gc.
I'll pretend that I'm not offended !!!
Equating the installation of a pet archive with permanence is a false argument! Sfs
archives can be just as permanent -- provided you don't remove them every 10 minutes!
My point in my post above was pupsave population. You need a very big pupsave to
install the pet archive of a java JRE (+/- 189 Mb's). If you don't have a big pupsave file,
you have to increase its size first. Whereas the size of your pupsave file does not matter
if you load the sfs of it.
As to using a pupsave folder instead of a pupsave file, my opinion is that it's not "Puppy"
to use one: it's a corruption of orthodox Puppy religion! I don't know who suggested
that pupsave folder aberration, but (s)he should be denied the last rites when (s)he
abandons Puppy!!!
The fact of the matter is: a pupsave file is much easier to back-up, manage and
export than a pupsave folder.
I hope this clears matters. BFN.
