qupzilla browser

#1 Post by 01micko »

This is qupzilla browser from http://www.qupzilla.com/

It's nice and fast so light on resources, however it does require the QT libraries. It uses webkit as its engine. No matter what pup you run QT should be in your ppm or available as an sfs. (If you run Slacko >=5.4 see the Sfs Manager)

I have made a package around 4M

Hello again 01micko.

There seems to be something wrong with qupzilla's bookmark importation module: is it just for me...
or does qupzilla really freeze for half an hour at 99 % when importing opera ookmarks?

So I removed qupzilla... As light Web surfers go, even if Netsurf (http://www.netsurf-browser.org/)
has the occasional typing slag, it works better overall on this rig under upupRaring 3.992.
http://pkgs.org/archlinux/archlinux-com ... ar.xz.html
(Check if you have the dependencies listed on that page before downloading.)

Or look for Netsurf in your PPM.

BFN.

This browser has the same problem with ca-certificates of QtWeb. To solve the problem about missing security certificates browsing some sites I adopted the pemasu's solution:

qupzilla for older puppies (4, wary)

#5 Post by sindi »

Please compile with glibc 2.8 to 2.11.3. The two qupzilla pets I found require glibc 3.4.
Wary puppy I think uses glibc 2.10 or 2.11. I have upgraded pulp (4.1.2 based) to 2.11.

The 1.4.4 package does not list as dependency libQt- Sql Script Network Dbus.
It is 4MB and the 1.6 package is 5MB - added features?

I tried QtWeb (as a statically compiled pet) and would like to try Slimboat. The former won't access several sites unless you turn off adblocker, keyboard navigation buggy. A library package with the missing dependencies (libQt- Webkit DBus Script Sql Gui Network core, also for glibc 2.8) would be most helpful .

Here is qupzilla I compiled in Carolina that is wary based glibc 2.10, try it, may work for you, right click save link as http://smokey01.com/carolina/pet_packag ... -1.4.4.pet

You will find qt-4.8.0.pet, qt-webkit-4.8.0.pet in the repo http://smokey01.com/carolina/pet_packages-carolina I haven't tried them in wary though.

Carolina pets of QupZilla and qt not usable in wary

#7 Post by sindi »

I downloaded the 10MB QupZilla-1.4.4.gz which I renamed to a pet. I was not able to untar (tar -zxvf) it but could gunzip the 10MB to about 40MB which was not a dynamic executable and which would not run in wary.

Ldd was not usable on the file.

The two libraries were also gz. Could not gunzip or untar them (as pet or tgz).
What did I do wrong?

The files are pet packages, the server is having a problem, you need to right click on the files and save link as, save it as a pet if it's seen as anything else.

I use firefox and that works, another way would be to use wget in a terminal to download them with,

in your download directory open a terminal, type " wget http://smokey01.com/carolina/pet_packag ... -1.4.4.pet " without the quotes, do the same for the other files.

Qupzilla needs qt and qt-webkit, as I said I haven't tried it in Wary, so it may fail to run.

I have had success installing qupzilla in wary 5.5. I'm now testing and I'm not interested so much to continue testing to find the basic procedure. I used a frugal wary 5.5 with glibc upgrade and libstdc++ upgrade. Read:

http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=91049

for instructions to procede to the upgrades. Then I tested some qt sfs. I have had success with qt4-4.8.0.sfs and a workaround for the missing libQtDBus.so.4: I extracted libQtDBus.so.4.8.2 from qt-4.8.2-stripped.sfs and symlinked to it libQtDBus.so.4. It works here. I'm writing from it.

qupzilla in pulp linux (4.1.2) still missing pieces (needs g

#10 Post by sindi »

I downloaded gupzilla, qt and qtweb with wget, unpacked them, copied the required libraries (about 50MB - skip the other parts such as translations) to a location that I put on the path in /etc/profile.

I may try using these libraries with dynamically compiled qtweb and/or slimboat.

qupzilla needed libgstreamer, which i downloaded from the slimboat site (which says puppy needs it). libgstreamer needs libxml2.so.2 which I have not hunted for.
The gstreamer libraries are about 1.5MB

qupzilla requires libcrypto which I have not hunted for.

I had to find an xz package to deal with libgst.xz. I extracted the package and copied xz to /usr/bin and the lzma library it required to /usr/lib, so as to extract libgst libraries, which i put into a library that I added to the path in /etc/profile

qupzilla seems to require a glibc 3.4.1 libstdc++ and I don't feel like upgrading pulp linux from glibc 2.11.3 to 3.4.1 Can qupzilla be compiled for older glibc? A library package including libcrypto, libgst, libxml2 would also be helpful.

I note that a glibc upgrade was required to use qupzilla in wary 5.5 (which I am not using on this computer - for some reason it is very slow - may not like frugal installation in a FAT32 directory?). Is there any advantage to glibc 3 on older hardware?

The qt and qtweb and gstreamer libraries are okay with glibc 2.11. 3

Thank you for the 2014 work on QupZilla for Puppy!

Since Google Chrome is unacceptable to many due to Google's preoccupation with invasion of privacy, monopolistic-like practices, & other disagreeable corporate policies ...

Microsoft IE is unacceptable to many due to chronic problems with memory leaks and security flaws ... not to mention disagreeable corporate policies at MS & by Bill Gates ...

Firefox/Seamonkey is now tarnished due to anti-free speech actions at Mozilla ...

QupZilla may be a good candidate for default browser in Puppy.

WDYT?

I've downloaded a couple of versions to test on 64 (LH64) & 32-based Puppy (upup-Raring) installs on laptops and netbooks ... will report back here ...

Qupzilla was unresponsive from Menu -> Internet.

Tried "qupzilla" from Console and received this error:
qupzilla: symbol lookup error: /usr/lim/QupZilla.so.1: undefined symbol: _ZNK10QTabWidget14heightForWidthEi
Can anyone translate, please?

Is there a solution?

Thanks!

What is your Qt & QtWebKit version? And which package did you install?

Did you copy paste the error as /usr/lim don't sound right.

i normally use the ver of QT it was compiled with for best results or around at least, say it was compiled with qt 4.8.2 the its best to use qt 4.8.x .

he doesn't state what its was compiled with so makes it hard to help.
he doesn't state if he even compiled it looking at it, it looks like i386 so unless he compiled it for that arch then to me it looks like a repack but i dont know for sure ya have to ask the packager.

The PET I downloaded was by Geoffrey.

I don't see yours in the thread you linked ... page one of this one.

Was that a typo?

It's working and seems quick.

I guess I need to add Flash for the sites which have not yet replaced Flash ...
