Hi.

The general idea is: the more RAM you have, the better.

That having been said, Linuxes (not just Puppy Linux) usually have a
permanent swap partition of +/- 2.5 Gb on the hard disk that "absorbs"
what cannot go in RAM.

If your system doesn't have such a swap partition, AND it does not have
enough RAM, Puppy creates a small swap file of 256 Mb's during its
launch process as a stop-gap.

Now please be aware that any system working from a swap file is sluggish
compared to one running entirely from RAM.

BFN.

A mi me gusta Racy, and it's not so big with a fully and large menu. I download it. FYI a barebone version is available on French forum. ROLX is its name.
Saluki is based on Racy 5.2.2.
I hold a dozen of Puplets from Lucid remasterised with Racy 5.3.
Viva Racy. Smile Vive Racy ! Very Happy

Toutou ROLX 55 here in french forum (natively english speaking, just delete french set up in ISO)

ISO loaded xorgwizard fails xorg, i run vesa.
I had this problem with all Racy 5.5, not with 5.3.
I check the menu, if everything promised is here.
Browsing with Seamonkey now, Opera runs oo, opera is slower responding, but the browser is not my interest. I pretend to be an artist, graphics and movies are my cup of tea. I'll explore that.
Retrovol, Avidemux and Xvidcap included,hum... that would feed my needs. Smile Thanks for having taken in account users needs..
pupsaveconfig-2.2.2.pet: 66 K added. If my first steps get wrong Racy will ask me if I want to save my session at shutdown, pupsaveconfig is a security belt. Always fastened.
Abiword is the 2.8.6 version, the last stable. Clever ! People using Puppy for large typing works will load Libre Office, the huge tool for typists (confirmed). Me, I play Puppy, for entertainment only. sometimes for serious activity, once a month. Racy means Racehorse no an horse trailing burdens heavier than him
AcetoneISO : ???? really a new one.
Skype is really a new tool for me, i study how Puppy users experienced this famous tool here
A workable way to install skype 4.3 in puppy

I'm not very familiar with puppies.
When more apps are added to a puppy, such as this one, are all the apps loaded at once into the ram?
So that one needs a machine with more ram to run it efficiently?

It depends. If running from a hard drive, then no unless you specifically set it up so that it does.

If running from a CD or USB, then probably.

See http://puppylinux.com/development/howpuppyworks.html

You should post in the beginner section with the specs of your computer and someone will help you figure out the best setup.

Hey Pelo

I forgot to add Acetoneiso in new edition, so here is the link for package

https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B6M1ioaXbcSIeHlpWGlVZ3E0Y3c/view?usp=sharing ,

it is nice tool to mount non iso images (for example nrg images), i mainly use it to mount and install some win games that i play through wine

so i would not be playing the last PRER ... Damn it !
Too bad so i am wrong ; i will try the last version later.
The main issue i met is that PRER does not run Xorg. The kernel 3.0.66 is the cause.
Franckly that is not penalizing.
Skype : i decided to try it at last. Checking the forum.

Great distro! The man has a talent for designing a desktop! Beautiful!

Only problem: ldd --version says: glibc 2.10...

That means very few new apps will run on it...

Any way you can up it up, even if that means dropping the 5.5 base? Just a thought.

BFN.

Distro is using libc6 2.11.1, even do ldd (usr/bin/ldd) reports it as 2.10.1, i didn't need to update ldd in this case

I'm glad you like look and feel of distro, props to the maker of the openboxplus 1.6.2 package, ofc. i did some modifications here and there

For now i don't have any plans to respin or to woof build some other puppy derivate, because there are so many out there, if you like all new and shiny racy base, Carolina is way to go (y)

Intention of this distro is to have polished and oobe feature rich distro for older computers

About glibc, is it possible to update them ?
Often I had to rename links libavcodec libavformat to a different dash in several puppies. Any idea about that, is there something common with GNU LIB ?
