Perhaps I just don't know how to use the packager.

When I search for gnumeric in "all repositories" it is not found.

When I look at the configure page I find that the unicorn entry is checked, but grayed out.

When I click on "add a repository help" I get no response.

The same situation occurs in Quirky Tahr.

Package is in the Utopic Universe repo...... came right up on first search attempt.

Untouched PPM hadn't even launched it before this.

Quirky Tahr uses the Gnumeric PET from the old wary5 repo.

In the Package Manager, click Configure button and choose the "wary5" repo, afterward the Package Manager has to be restarted (must fix that!)

You can do a search for gnumeric in that repo, and install it. It does have some deps, "goffice" PET for one.
...but, it would be a lot less deps than the Ubuntu DEB of gnumeric.

I am wondering if I can cut FreeOffice down some more, take out the spreadsheet component, then put Gnumeric in.

Well, this assumes that textmaker is OK. It was ok when I tested it, but linuxcbon has experienced a problem -- but maybe it was just that one .doc file?

I have actually had that problem in Abiword, with images not displaying. I have had feedback that Abiword is very flakey when the document size gets big, and I am most reluctant to go back to it.

I am having serious problems with vertical scrolling in SeaMonkey 2.30, when use the mouse scrollwheel.

Works sometimes, then sometimes the web page gets corrupted, like horizontal parts missing.

I click up and down in the window scrollbar to clear it.

Not good.

Apparently, Firefox (and SM) has longstanding issues with vertical scrolling.

Installed Quirky Unicorn yesterday on hard drive and I am loving it. My dvb aps are working well. What really impressed me is I ran the dvb app with the iq plotting an 8psk constellation and at the same time had Netflix playing.
It performed flawlessly.

So far Quirky rocks!!

Thanks BK

f2fs

No luck using fsfs to boot QU in AMD E350 laptop. The default Grub entry is:
title Quirky 6.2 (full install on sdb1)
uuid 044d5085-b3cf-4bdc-926f-18cc186c346f
kernel /boot/vmlinuz root=PARTUUID=000714e9-01 rootwait rw
Anyone having a similar experience?

Have tried both Slacko 570 and Fatdog 700b1 to install QU to SD card using fsfs option.

My understanding is missing something here. What is "fsfs"?

Is there any reason why you did not use my install script?:

http://distro.ibiblio.org/quirky/quirky ... rtition.sh

I take it that you want to install to an internal partition on the hard drive. Is it a solid-state drive? What filesystem is in the partition?

The script should do it ok, and generate a suggested entry for GRUB.

Or, if you want to install to an SD card or USB stick, use my script:

http://distro.ibiblio.org/quirky/quirky ... o-drive.sh

Detailed instruction are online, though do need the wording updated for QU:
http://distro.ibiblio.org/quirky/quirky ... ky-6.x.htm

...this also describes the 8GB image method D, which is probably the easiest, if you have a 8GB SD card.
(you can use a bigger SD card, and create another partition to fill the empty space -- I don't think that f2fs can be resized yet)

These scripts are only for installing to traditional MBR BIOS computers, not these new-fangled UEFI Win8 machines. However, I have started work on the latter, see my latest blog post.

Q 6.2.1

#781 Post by mai77 »

I used the quirky 8 GB SD image and put it on bootable SD from within mint Linux (using mint image writer, comes with liveCD & liveUSB). excellent ! Saves much UEFI troubles !
and fast, since SD does not pass USB bottleneck (Akoya China laptop with AMIBIOS).

The kernel compiles nicely in Q6.2.1 - make gconfig

only the browser "first startup" orange warning keeps coming on every browser start.
And kernel compiling kinda slows down the machine more than usual.

I promoted Q6 in wikipedia (f2fs).

formatted the rest of 32GB SD to F2FS. good feature !

my next steps:
  • try snapshots
use recompiled kernel after make gconfig moddings

Sorry, Barry, I was careful to type "f2fs" (see it at the title of my post, correctly typed) but perhaps my hand slipped when typing the text. :)

Of course, I was using your script (install to drive) and installed to a 4 GB class 10 SD card. I have already booted QU using 2fs filesystem on the same flash drive, but got nowhere with f2fs.

*** I should clarify that am clueless how to prepare flash drive using f2fs for booting QU with the flash drive itself (and whether I can do this while using Slacko 5.7 or Fatdog64 700b1). For example, GParted says that it can't read the f2fs partition it just created! ***

I was watching your Win8.1 experiment and anticipate a QU easily installed to boot from the flash drive itself (even in legacy BIOS). At the moment, the size of the card seems to be the constraint here (8 GB), so I should get an 8-GB SD card pronto.

EDIT: Micko has posted about f2fs: f2fs – booting linux on an f2fs flash drive

Updated a FULL as advertised and ended up with all inverted triangles filled with question marks on light green background. Usual methods to change desktop/icons/etc don't function although everything else works???

Code: Select all

# ffmpeg

ffmpeg: error while loading shared libraries: libdb-5.3.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

My first boot into Quirky did not make it to X. When I ran the xorgwizard, the only driver I could choose (edit: or available to choose) was the Intel driver. I was surprised that the X test dialog came up and it stated X is working because I had only gotten modesetting to work. Then it hanged and I had to restart. It wasn't until I chose "none" that X loaded. I supposedly have an Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 3600 so I'll have to see if that works.

I thought I read somewhere that Quirky only supports modesetting Xorg driver. I don't know why that would be or if I had that right. I am using a Gateway LT 4009u netbook with Intel Atom 2600 processors.

Code: Select all
