What works, and doesn't, for you. Be specific, and please include Puppy version.

EEE 900a 2Gb upgrade

#1 Post by ThoriumBlvd »

I have an ASUS model 900a withh BIOS 0503. Puppy Slacko-5.5XL installed on formatted ext3 USB with save to ext3 SSD. There is no other OS or filing on the SSD or USB. Recently I was granted a few $$$ for Christmas, and would like to upgrade the RAM to a single 2Gb DDR2-667 stick. I'm pretty sure my Slacko-5.5XL can handle it, but is there a problem in BIOS accepting 2Gb? IIRC there WAS, but perhaps the kernel 3.2.33-4g overrides this. Unfortunate that eeeuser is closed. There was a wealth of info there that I referred to on many occasions. :(

PSI reports thaat the CPU allows 2Gb, further investigation still uncertain as to wether BIOS allows it.

I have an old computer that claimed when I bought it that it could use up to 512 MB of RAM. When I later tried a single 512 MB stick of RAM, it wouldn't work, but two, 256 MB, sticks would. :?

Just be sure and buy the right stick. My 701SD and 900 ran on 2gig of ram just fine
when I changed out the 512MB stick. Bios won't struggle with it.

I sold my EEEPCs but I inserted that ram stick into this netbook.

I bought this stick ages ago and made sure eeepc compatibility was in the sales
description. Like I said. It ran fine on my eeepc 900.

@Flash, The eeepc only has 1 ram slot. It has to be a single 2 gig stick. Just experienced info.
