Never heard of Viber. What does it do? Where is it found in the wild? Smile

Ok supports everything except linux...thats nice Very Happy

Might work in wine...I suspect it some form of java applet so might work on microemulator.

Either way using the video features might be fun.

Its not really built for the likes of us

Funny how there have remained a painful variety of incompatible chat protocols

FYI: http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=news_item&px=MTUxOTc says they now support Linux.
And there's something at
http://download.cdn.viber.com/cdn/desktop/Linux/Viber.zip
that's just over 40 MB...
Oh. It's amd64 only.

I had not heard of it until very recently so you are not alone Flash Smile
A former WorkMate who also love to be a computer shopaholic
he has it on his Samsung Android Phone so if one have a Puppy
that can run android apps then it should work? but then one need
ARM on that computer I guess.

Workmate says it is very practical app. But it reveals very much.
That you are online and your true name and your mobile number
and if you did answer that call and so on. If the other person don't
have wifi or GPRS connection their standard GSM? can answer
the phone but I guess one get a choice first?

Viber is growing in Sweden.
It reveals too much for my taste.

I would like Psip Voip to gain more
attraction. Does anybody know how
different Viber is to Psip Voip?

One big difference is that Psip relates to your
Psip username while Viber relates to your
official mobile number and real name.

another difference may be that if the person
that you call is not there to answer it
goes over to regular telephone service
instead of using Sip protocol IIRC that is.

Any friendly comments on my naive thoughts?

My sister has Viber on her iPad.
My wife has Viber on both her Samsung Galaxy tab-2 10.1 [running Android 4.0], and her Nokia Lumia 610 smartphone [running Windows Phone].

My youngest daughters' boyfriend set it up on the tab-2 [on Christmas day].
It needed to be linked to a mobile phone phonenumber [the smartphone].
Haven't tried using it yet.

My eldest daughter is complaining that she doesn't like the way her smartphone links e-v-e-r-y-t-h-i-n-g.
She says if she adds some piece of info to one part, then every other part knows about it.
She worried that someone [cracker?] may be able to make improper use of this.

Sylvander one would have to know some expert to find out about such
possible holes for a cracker to break in.
I know almost nothing but my former workmate found it very practical
he could talk for free to his best friend who now lives in Thailand

Sure Psip would do that too but then it would not be coupled
to the mobile phone number?
