#1 Post by witekjeden »

You can try the grub-0.97.pet from puppy4 repository:

http://distro.ibiblio.org/puppylinux/pet_packages-4/

But I suggest to you to learn grub4dos: it's easy...

Hi.
Packages from p4 repo not works in Slacko and Precise. Grub4dos is not good choice for me because i use only full hd installoation and only ext partitions.
.
But i solved this problem (i hope). Run Puppy with an old grub installer example Racy5.5 and extract a file /usr/sbin/grubconfig then put them into /usr/sbin in Slacko5.6 or Precise5.7.1. Klik on this file and the old-looking Grub Legacy should work.

Works on any posix and windows partitions and also optical. Can boot anything grub can.
The DOS in the name is a little misleading

I think, if you try Grub4dos, that comes with Puppy, you will like it.
It does work very well, with any type install, on any format.
I use it and like it much better than Grub.
The things they do not tell you, are usually the clue to solving the problem.
When I was a kid I wanted to be older.... This is not what I expected
YaPI(any iso installer)

Legacy grub works for me , too .

I like everything ordered in the /boot folder, not scattered files on top level of the partition .

You are right, Grub4dos working with ext4 partitions, i doesn't know about it. So i can run Grub4dos or cheat Grub Legacy extracting a binary file 'grubconfig' from Racy and put it into /usr/sbin. My problem solved (for now). Thanks for help.
.
In my opinion Grub Legacy should stay in Menu:

Grub 2013
Grub Legacy
Grub4dos
