How to use my USB wireless dongle? (Solved)

I' m trying to connect to my wifi wifi a USB Dongle it doesn't work.
I've entered several times the correct wireless key but it always fails to connect.
Any ideas ??

What kind of dongle, what version of Puppy?

Dongle is a TP-LINK WN823N
It may be that you don't have the correct driver (looks like there isn't a Linux driver -- so perhaps you can load a windows driver -- I don't really know anything about that):

/etc/DISTRO_SPECS should have that info (at least true under Lucid 5.28).

Looks like it is supported but may not work well...they recommend the driver from realtek (I have built one from them and it worked just fine)

It may be that you don't have the correct driver (looks like there isn't a Linux driver -- so perhaps you can load a windows driver -- I don't really know anything about that):
AS I'm really new to linux can someone tell how to install the windows drivers on putty ??

The TP-Link TL-WN823N contains the Realtek RTL8192CU chipset. More recent versions of Puppy contain a driver as standard for this chipset, and for older Puppy versions there are third-party versions of the Realtek driver available ...
but hilfer, we really need to know what version of Puppy you have.

Ideally you would have noted the version number when you downloaded it, and have labelled your CD with this information when you burned the ISO image to CD.
But as RetroTechGuy mentioned, you can (and should) open /etc/DISTRO_SPECS in a text editor.

Thanks for clearing that up tempestuous! I'm far from an expert at the networking issues -- just kinda muddle through it...
When I picked up a wireless dongle I checked the forum to find out what was known to work (supported by Linux in general, and known to work in Puppy)...

Google tells me that your TL-WN823N's USB device ID is 0bda:8178
and this device ID is definitely supported by the rtl8192cu driver, which Slacko 5.5 and Precise 5.7.1 both contain.
But Puppy should automatically load this driver!
You should NOT be attempting to forcibly load a driver, even one that is theoretically correct. This is destined to fail.
Run the full Network Wizard (not the Simple Network Wizard) and see if a valid interface is listed ("wlan0" or "eth1").
Then go ahead and configure it.
If still no success, I need to know your dongle's exact USB ID -
Menu > System > HardInfo > USB Devices

I see some wizard tools under setup but I nothing called " full network wizard . !!|

Or: Menu-> Setup-> Internet Connection Wizard
Select 'Frisbee' to connect your wifi device.
I have just tried my 'RTL 8188S' with Puppy Slacko 5.5 - works well so far.

Ok let me explain exactely where I'be neeb trying:
Configuration> internet connection wizard > lan or wireless> network wizard
No matter what I try there : network wizard, frisbee or a third option my dongles never detected.

Wait a minute - you are saying you are using 'Frisbee'. How do you try to login to your wifi source? How does your 'Frisbee' window look like? Does it look like this on?

No I didn't say I was using frisbee.
On network wizard there are 3 options:
one of them is "frisbee", but I tried them all.
The problem is that none of them detects my dongle.

How old is the machine? I had an old dongle that I concluded would suck too much on the USB, then shut off... It would work in machines that could supply enough power, not in others...very weird...
BTW, here is a dongle that did work for me (and I think I paid about $5 for it):
