I need the Broadcom b43 Legacy driver for my wifi. Is it available OOTB with this distro?
Which flavour & version of LxPup are you using?

In previous versions, the wl driver was permanently activated.

In current versions, an icon will appear on the desktop which you need to click and confirm and reboot to activate.

The desktop file can also be found in /opt/broadcom

b43-legacy is available - see /lib/modules/4.0.4-tahr_PAE-32-pae/kernel/drivers/net/wireless for LxPup-15.06 for instance

If I use the current version and a Live CD or Live USB thumb drive, will the reboot work for activating the wl driver. Or, does it have to be installed on the computer.

You have to create a savefolder/savefile on some sort of storage media....but no other "installation" is needed.....

Thanks for the information.

It is working well on a USB thumb drive.
It easily connected to my wireless internet.

I am not able to connect my printer.
It is a parallel port Okidata OL610e.
I tried Cups but it could not find the printer and there is not an option for a parallel port printer.

I need some help.

From:
google search results

it would appear likely that kernels produced by 666philb probably don't have parallel port support. Both LxPup-15.06 and LxPupTahr-15.05 use 666philb kernels.

He has provided ppdev.ko for kernel 3.14.20 no-pae so if you are running LxPupTahr-15.05-nopae then this might be worth trying.

hey, I don't know which version I have Lxpup Tahr 15.02 maybe

How can I know my version ?

Is it important to update ? I really don't care about modifying the graphics and I prefer to avoid modifying stuff if not needed.

And can I go from 15.02 to 15.05 ?
Main puppy used : LxPup tahr.

You should have an icon on the desktop that tells you the version....

The iso name....

The names of the sfs files inside the iso....

Otherwise:
- click on the Personal Storage indicator in the system tray
or
- System -> System -> Pup-SysInfo: Sys-Specs -> Distro Specs

No need to update if you are happy with what you have.

You can update a frugal install of 15.02 to 15.05 - but suggest you backup personal storage first just in case...

This version works for parallel port printer.
The wireless initially connected but thereafter I could not get it to work on subsequent boots.

USB Multiboot 2015 Lite Speed 32

#688 Post by Gooplusplus »

Three Puppy-based distros are included in the just released USB Multiboot Lite Speed 32 Collection.

Image

The collection requires an 8GB USB flash drive for a non-persistent install and 16GB USB flash drive to add some/all of the (highly compressed) 8.5GB of persistence files.

Here are some relevant links:

That sounds like the known problem of the wl driver erroneously claiming a wifi device it shouldn't.....and may be showing up because you upgraded a savefile from 15.02 to 15.05? This was meant to be cured in a pristine install of 15.05.

Run lsmod - if it shows the wl driver loaded & you don't have Broadcom wifi then I suggest you should blacklist wl & reboot

Cheers

LxPupTahr-15.05.2

#693 Post by peebee »

Updated 15.05.2 versions of LxPupTahr have been uploaded - see:

lx-pup.weebly.com

The 15.05.2 pae and nopae versions have the following changes:

- openbox-3.6.1
- tahrfix7 as of 6-aug-15
- smaller iso size (from bigger .sfs block size)

Everything else including kernel remains the same - (hence the minor version increase to 15.05.2)

Cheers

OpenGL

Version 3.3.0 NVIDIA 340.76

Kodi works great on this pc.

Added applications from Quickpet and PPM, also compiled cmus-2.7.1
music player if anyone wants it.

Cmus creates an entry in the Multimedia section of the puppy menu, the
number keys 1-7 bring up screens, 7 has available commands.
For example: you can add music on screen 3 by entering:
":add /mnt/home/music" no quotes in the bar at the bottom of the
screen, ":clear" will allow adding music from some other directory,
pressing RS will Shuffle the order the songs are played.
