Fujitsu-Siemens video driver

#541 Post by Rodney Byne »

Hi to peebee,

You've been helpful recently, I wondered if you
can also suggest on the following:

LxPup 14.12 on a stick, doesn't load up on
this notebook the only one of my four pcs;
Fujitsu-Siemens Amilo L7300 series c2004.

The initial flash screen shows, then loading kernel,
then black screen and hangs - nothing more.
Reading user forums show this is typically lack of
correct video driver in the kernel.

From Google, table data of the time shows this:
Fujitsu-Siemens VGA Video Drivers 6.14.10.0188 2004-11-02 XP

Is there provision for adding this driver to the kernel?

Some time ago, XP was replaced by installed host distro
Zorin 9 OS Lite, so I know the F-S is amenable to using Linux.

Thanks in advance,
Regards.

Peebee, so you're using an old version of lxpup ? could you elaborate ? looks weird xD

Also, I installed a package and didn't save my session at shutdown (no automatic save) but when I rebooted it was still here.
Same thing happened some days ago when I removed the USB stick to avoid the automatic save at shutdown (and then I did fsck and it was clean).
So what could be causing that ? Should I ask somewhere else ? :P
Main puppy used : LxPup tahr.

Graphics problem as discussed

#543 Post by Rodney Byne »

To peebee:

Quote:
Hi there

You need to find more details of what drivers are needed for your hardware.

What I suggest is that you boot with settings:

pfix=ram,nox

(No, this command in Precise 5.7.1; puppy pfix=nox, ram)
which should boot to the terminal

issue the xorgwizard command and see which drivers are offered (make a note)

If multiple drivers are offered try one of the alternatives

Also issue the lspci command and note the details of your graphics that gives you -
probably on a line starting "VGA compatible controller:"

If no joy then search the forum using the Wellminded search engine at:
http://puppylinux.org/wikka/PuppyLinuxSearchEngine
with your graphics details

If you're still in problems, probably better to post a query on one of the graphics
problem threads rather than the LxPup one -
be sure to give as full details of your laptop and what software as possible.

Hope that helps
Cheers

Hi Rodney Byne
[ 33.143] (II) Loading /usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers/openchrome_drv.so
See below for clarification from 666philb.

You need to run LxPupPrecise-retro on this laptop. see http://lx-pup.weebly.com/upup-precise.html

hi peebee,

openchrome_drv.so is in tahrpup and so is the via kernel module but for some reason via cards aren't working.
it could be missing firmware... or another missing kernel config

LxPup-15.02.1-s-pae.iso & nopae.iso

#547 Post by peebee »

A new Slacko6Beta2 based version of LxPup is available from:

LxPup-15.02.2-s-pae.iso

This is a Slackware14.1 based puppy.

The main changes from the last pae version (LxPup-14.10.00-s-pae.iso) are:
  • kernel 3.17.7-pae-updated from 666philb
    openssl 1.0.1k
    libstardust-150130
    pfilesearch-2.0.pet
    pfind-6.1.pet
    ppm_auto-1.9_0402.pet
    Pup-SysInfo-2.5.2.pet
    YASSM-2.7.pet

    shortcut creation and editing
    keyboard volume controls
LxPup-15.02.2-s-nopae.iso also available

The LxPupTahr versions also available - see below.

Including ppm_auto is a bit of a risk as mavrothal has only just released version 1.9, but I think its worth exposing version 1.9 to a wider audience. There may be further updates.

Cheers

Posting from 15.02 non-PAE, updated from 14.12.2 on a frugal Grub4Dos install on the Fujitsu S6510 laptop. 2.4GHz core 2 duo, 2Gb RAM, iwlwifi (5300 chip) wireless, intel 'Cantiga' video (i915 driver). No hitches. Deliberately didn't clean up the savefile first. Connection, sound, panel, apps in savefile all came through unscathed. Intel video driver and MESA used, direct rendering, no intel drm setup errors, glxgears at a solid 1375 FPS. Also did a pfix=ram boot just to check. Boringly normal :)

Noted that there is still a (I assume) spurious directory, hicolcor, in /usr/share/icons. Pretty sure the scalable icons therein belong in hicolor there but I don't know if that is a TahrPup or LxTahrPup thing.

As an aside, I'm coming up on 3 weeks running LxPupUnicorn 15.1.01 as the 'daily driver' on one of the Bay-Trail boxes at the farm with no squawks or requests from the users. That's good.

Thanks,
Pups currently in kennel :D Older LxPupSc and X-slacko-4.4 for my users; LxPupSc, LxPupSc64 and upupEF for me. All good pups indeed, and all running savefiles for look'n'feel only. Browsers, etc. solely from SFS.

LxPupUnicorn-15.02 is now available.....

Built in the same way as before by adding TahrPup applications onto the UnicornPup6.0 base and then adding the LxPup components.

Updated to use TahrPup6.0.2CE applications.

in order to post french speaking, could you change the Title of topic LXPUP 12.12 in forum francophone to LXPUP only. Versions are so many than that will allow not creating a new topic at each version.
J'ai des infos à donner au sujet de LXPUP Qt, but many of my colleagues badly understand english ( :) so do i, but less then they do)

Hi Pelo

That thread belongs to jejy69 and only he can edit the 1st post and therefore the title of the thread.

You could try to send him a pm or you could ask a moderator to change it.....

Sorry I can't help any more, but thats how the forum works.

using my lxpup 14.02 save on the newest lxpup, it asked me if i wanted to copy the sfs in the usb stick, so I said yes and then it bugged :)
I had no firewall set up and custom programs on startup

So I deleted these sfs and the bug was gone.
Can't say more though

Rednotebook

#559 Post by Subito Piano »

Hi! Excellent work but rednotebook will not function as posted here. Launching in terminal gives

Code: Select all

Webkit was not found. It can be found in a package with the name python-webkit or pywebkitgtk
...although rednotebook does work in tahrpup 6.0.2. I did install the pet package python-webkit_1.1.8, but that dd not help.

Not sure where the problem lies....???

[EDIT] I downloaded and ran TahrPup and installed rednotebook -- it ran fine. Then i downloaded the LxPup sfs fie and loaded it "on the fly," then ran the lxpup pet as directed. It restarted the wm automatically, then rednotebook would not start. Terminal gives the following output:

Hi - this appears to be a very large (>100MB) and complicated application which installs all sorts of dependencies and libraries. I'm not even really clear what the application does (or why it needs to be so large).

It doesn't seem to have been supported on Slackware since version 13.37 - see http://pkgs.org/search/rednotebook - LxPup current is based on Slackware 14.1 components.

If it works on TahrPup then it may be best to keep running it there.....

Sorry can't be more help on this one - I think it just isn't compatible with LxPup.
Cheers
