Delta downloaded and applied. All md5sums correct. I'm on a Pentium M so I manually swapped in the 4.5.0 kernel from the current LxPupSc before booting with forcepae kernel parameter. Came up all smiles on the Pentium M. Renamed the 4b2 savefile xslackosave from slackosave and running from it now.

As with LxPupSc, the dhcpcd on board from slacko/slackware (6.0.5 in this case, 6.8.2 in LxPupSc) doesn't support dropwait so for the ipw2200 Pentium Ms, SNS which I'm currently using or PWF are better choices for wireless on this class of machine if I may use class and Pentium M in the same sentence. Frisbee re-leases on the dropouts every 108 seconds.

I'll run with this on the M and do stock boots on the core 2 duo and the Bay Trail box tomorrow.

Update: Up with stock kernel and serving samba shares on the Bay Trail desktop, wired ethernet. I am using a modified version of 01mickos simple samba setup so I can lock it down to my local network. Other than that it's OOTB. Really nice to have the firewall sorted with the additional options working. Continuing to use on the Pentium M lappie with forcepae and the 4.5 kernel, SNS WPA2 connection. No hitches there as yet either.

Cheers,

Thanks @RG66 for the updated distro as you are showing that PAE can be developed and released for practically every x86 PCs built since 1995 to present.

Thanks @Marv for your sharing of the multiple kernels that work with your configuration(s).

Puppy Linux, in the future, PUPs may not need to carry the PAE distinction as you have shown it to be unnecessary. This distro boots to all PCs.

Anyone know of a PC since year 2000 that this distro does NOT boot to? If so, share your experiences as if would be helpful, IMHO. No responses, would be helpful, too, as this would show that PUPs built for PAE can run on all known x86s with any amount of RAM, small or large, that the PC contains.

Hope this helps all

Hi,

I downloaded the slackware_current.tar.gz, extracted it and then copied
the files to /root/.packages, then updated PPM.
I chose kpat from the slacko current repo and it downloaded kpat but
none of the dependencies so that failed.
I deleted the save file and started over, did not add the slackware current
repo and kpat installed along with the dependencies, works fine.

That's it so far.

Edit: more info:

Thanks for the report Billtoo.

I added the repo according to /usr/local/petget/README-add-repo.htm, that part seems ok. I had a look at /root/.packages/Packages-slackware-current and there are no dependencies listed for any package. Either a slackware or PPM issue?

Hi rg66 & billtoo

This is a Slackware issue - encountered on LxPupSc - Mavrothal provided me with a fix that copies the dependencies from 14.1 to current.

Slackware-current has many updated libraries so it will be very hit and miss which will run on a 14.1 base I think as dependency versions are not detected by ppm....

BTW - 14.1 does not have dependencies either - they come from another project (slackel I believe) which does not yet have a current verison.

Cheers

Thanks peebee but that package does not work as is for X-slacko. I've done some edits and have it working more or less but something breaks gtkdialog in /usr/local/petget/installpreview.sh so the examine missing deps window won't open. Confused

Working on it but going over PPM scripts can do your head in. (where's the emoticon with the gun to its head?)

I installed the pet to add the slackware current repo and with the
slackware current repo chosen I added xine.
It downloaded and installed with dependencies but wouldn't run until I
added libpng16 and libjpeg with PPM.
I runs now but can't get sound, it's missing a codec.

Thanks for testing Billtoo.

As peebee stated:

"Slackware-current has many updated libraries so it will be very hit and miss which will run on a 14.1 base I think as dependency versions are not detected by ppm...."

So it's more of an experiment I guess, as long as it doesn't break PPM.

Hi.

It is repeating its code completely. What in the hell is that?

Hi.

Dowloaded X-Slacko 4.0 ISO to try to turn it into a T.O.P.L.E.S.S. LazY Puppy 5.

Found a very very very strange thingy inside of it s initrd.gz.

What a crazy init script this has... Laughing

Strange, not sure how that happened. Luckily it doesn't seem to effect anything so it can wait to be fixed until next release.

I did a manual frugal install to a 32gb flash drive to use on my emachines laptop:

video-info-glx 1.5.3 Mon 11 Apr 2016 on X-Slacko 4.0 Linux 3.14.56 i686
5.0 VGA compatible controller: AMD/ATI [Advanced Micro Devices, Inc.]
RS690M [Radeon Xpress 1200/1250/1270]

X Server: Xorg Driver: radeon
X.Org version: 1.14.3
dimensions: 1280x800 pixels (338x211 millimeters)
depth of root window: 24 planes

direct rendering: Yes
server glx vendor string: SGI
server glx version string: 1.4
OpenGL vendor string: X.Org R300 Project
OpenGL renderer string: Gallium 0.4 on ATI RS690
OpenGL version string: 2.1 Mesa 9.1.7

AMD Athlon(tm) Processor 2650e
Core 0: @1596 MHz

Using PPM with default settings.
It's working well on this laptop.

Thanks.
