I'll try and compile both of those and upload them to the repo. I've never had much luck getting power-manager to even run and I don't think it's too compatible with puppy.

gtk-xfce-engine-3.2.0 has been uploaded to the repo. As usual, power manager compiled fine but fails to run, looks like a dbus issue.

Pupsaveconfig isn't compatible with save to folder and it doesn't look like shinobar is updating it. Control Panel > System > Puppy Event Manager > Save Session tab will let you choose save interval. I just need to modify /etc/rc.d/rc.sysinit to create the save icon, it's on the to do list.

@rg66 what I mean is change the GUI of pupsaveconfig only. Not replace the pupsaveconfig completely. The appearance that I suggest was look like shinobar's pupsaveconfig.

How about this approach---retain the countdown of pupsaveconfig but remove the appearance of gtk-splash on taskbar. I noticed that the dialog for countdown always blinks on taskbar. By removing on taskbar will be better.

I still modifying the appearance of pupsaveconfig but still no luck.

By the way, if the x-slacko 3.0 is released; does the save file can be upgraded from x-slacko 2.x?

Ok, I understand what you mean. Apart from changing the background color to grey, I don't really want to touch that script. It's too easy to screw something up and I'm not the greatest with gtkdialog. I think Marv figured out how to change the color from yellow on the countdown splash, maybe he'll chime in.

I wouldn't upgrade the savefile from 2.x.x to 3, different versions of slackware and xfce.

I'll politely decline tinkering with rc.shutdown. Way too easy to misstep therein... And I see value in keeping certain core scripts 'stock'.

Just to see what would happen, I did try to update my 3b5 (xfce 4.10) savefile to 3b6 (xfce 4.12). In my case, it was a mixed sucess. Programs and printer setup survived but my panel and panel plugins were pretty badly dinged. Better to start fresh in this instance. My halfstep for those circumstances is to copy whatever .desktops, themes, icons, fonts, config files, etc. I want to transfer over into a work directory (along with the appropriate dir structure) and make a pet of it. Once done, it has suprising utility. All my browser profiles and personal data are external already so that's not an issue for me.

Edit:
A mousepad question. One of the reasons I keep leafpad on board is that Geany will not open certain system files, a long time issue. Mousepad also seems to have problems with them. It works fine for scripts and text files in /root and so forth. Two screenshots attached. Any thoughts?

Pups currently in kennel :D Older LxPupSc and X-slacko-4.4 for my users; LxPupSc, LxPupSc64 and upupEF for me. All good pups indeed, and all running savefiles for look'n'feel only. Browsers, etc. solely from SFS.

I know. They all work together (on a good day) and I still politely decline.

Sorry Marv, not a clue. I do know that mousepad needs dconf-0.5.1-i486-s from the repo or settings won't be saved.

Thunar-1.6.6 has some file corruption issues. 10 tries at rebuilding the main sfs and every time it was smaller by about 5mb and the md5 kept changing. Back to 1.6.3 and everything is ok again, it's by far the most stable.

@rg66 I successfully modified the puppy remaster script. This script is allowed to include xfce settings (except display setting), file assosciations, and installed packages which can be freely uninstall using PPM on remastering puppy linux. You may review this script that I modified if you want.

That works pretty good, although I just did a quick test. I have shortened it by a few lines and changed somethings.

Code: Select all

mkdir -p /tmp/root/.config

cp -fR /root/.config/* /tmp/root/.config

rm /tmp/root/.config/xfce4/desktop/*
rm /tmp/root/.config/xfce4/xfconf/xfce-perchannel-xml/displays.xml

mkdir -p /tmp/root/.local/share/applications

cp -fR /root/.local/share/applications/* /tmp/root/.local/share/applications
I not sure I would copy everything from ~/.config unless it was a remaster just for myself. If I remember correctly, Carolina or at least Saluki had a popup window that allowed you to choose what to add from ~/.config if anything.

Also, I think that user installed apps are copied over as builtin so ~/.packages/user-installed-packages is redundant.

Yes @rg66 it will copy anything including the subdirectory (-R must define on cp command to copy also the subdirectories).

libxfce4gui doesn't appear to be available anymore, it's not listed on the xfce download page. libxfce4gui-4.10.0 is in the slackware repo through PPM though.

Parole failed to compile with a bunch of perl errors that I couldn't sort out.

Delta downloaded and applied. md5sum of iso produced checks. Pristine frugal boot to core2duo fine, 3b6 savefile stripped of whiskermenu, getflash pet installs and my savefile .desktop, cleaned and used for update. No hitches, no glitches. Save launcher noted, firefox run and customized, my Palemoon launcher switched back to my external. Anything in particular I should look for or at?

Not really, I think I got most of the issues sorted. Next one should be v3.0 with sfs names changed, just need to think about kernels for a bit.
