rg66, I hope you'll create an alt version of X-Slacko 2.0, with PAE. I like having four gigs of RAM and being able to use all of it on a 32bit OS

Wasn't planning on it, but who knows.

Also, how would you feel if I released an ISO of a slightly tweaked X-Slacko 1.1 PAE...? I'd incorporate the installpkg.sh fix and possibly (depending on what a friend of mine can do) a way to fix another issue that mikeb told me about in a thread I've got in Beginner's Help. (Basically, Puppy in general does not unmount [properly, or at all] either the savefile or the partition on which the savefile is stored, upon shutdown.)

Not a problem, I actually made an X-slacko-1.2 ISO but decided to go with slacko-5.7 and v2.0

This version is based on Slacko-5.7-NO-pae and features the Whisker menu.

Edit: Installing obexfs-0.12-i486-1 and obexftp-0.23-i486-8 enables browsing of devices, unfortunately it only showed empty dirs.

Edit2: After some research, it seems that Nautilus might be the only file manager that has obex support to browse devices.

I think you have made a wise choice to focus on slacko.

I love both x-precise and x-slacko very much.

I did have problems when using pakage manager to download programs for precise. I usually get a hugh list of dependencies to download. I would usually end up not downloading and installing because i don't want to mess up xprecise. For this, I am really grateful that "Geoffrey" is kind enough to post interesting new softwares in the forum now and then.

Xslacko 1.1 - worked well on my netbook msi u270

Xslacko 2.0 - Frisbee, Douglass, simple network didn't detect my wifi system for some reasons.

(my msi u270 is using Realtek rtl8188ce 802.11n pci-e nic).

So, i will use x-slacko 1.1 for now until there is a solution.

I was using x-precise for some time, but now I decided to move to your x-slaco mainly because there is newest kernel in slaco build and my dvb-t card is working out of box in it. I would like to ask you one question about slaco -- is it normal in x-slaco, that I have no sound (volume control) icon and network wizard(for wifi) icons in a tray as it used to be in x-precise ?
Sound and network are working but there are no icons for them in tray.

X-slacko-1.1 is based on slacko-5.6
X-slacko-2.0 is based on slacko-5.7

Not too much difference really other than a newer kernel. Are you starting fresh or using the 1.1 savefile? Have you tried slacko-5.7 to see if the same thing happens? I've decided to do a pae version when I'm finished v2.1. It should be out by the weekend, you can try that as well and see if wireless works.

No, that is not normal. run xfce4-mixer from terminal and see if the config window opens. Right click panel > Add new items > Mixer > Add and see if there's an error message.

Run in terminal: network_tray and see if it loads or if there's an error message.

I downloaded slacko 5.9.3 and I experienced problems with frisbee wifi connection.

Therefore, the problem is not in xslacko 2.0 but it is in the slacko 5.7 onwards. maybe, my netbook (MSI U270) is too old.

Earlier xslacko 1.1 worked well.

I have also downloaded xprecise 2.4 and was nervous whether it will work. Fortunately, it worked well when I booted up from flash drive without a save file. Sound and Wiifi worked OK. Now, I am wondering if I can use my previous x precise 's save file or I have to create another save file for x precise 2.4. I think I will stay with X-precise since it worked so well for me.

csipsesz 's (precise-5.7.1-csipesz-may2014) precise puppy worked ok with bluetooth.sfs that it comes with.

When load the bluetooth.sfs into xprecise, my bottom (task) panel disappears. It looks like bluetooth.sfs has a compatibility issue with xfce desktop environment. bluetooth also worked very well in fatdog puppy but then there are other limitations in fatdog puppy.

I also like xprecise because using thunar file manager, i could easily mount shared folders on other windows pc. (smb://xxx.xxx.x.xxx)

There seems to be nothing missing or not to like about x precise other than not being able to use my bluetooth mouse.

The option to save or not to save from ram to the savefile is one of my favourite feature. Most of the time if I didn't install extra softwares or change settings, I would choose not to save. Also, If i installed a new software and it caused my xprecise to act suspiciously, I would choose not to save during shutdown.Without this option to save or not save, I have messed up so many times when using puppy os and I don't know how to repair because I am simply not advance in my knowledge about computer things.

Unfortunately, I am having problems with the new slackos and Barry is no longer developing puppy precise. I will however keep on trying out slacko whenever a new version is released because I read that the new versions of puppy allows users to save their save files to a folder of their choosing. This is a useful feature.

Is a module being loaded for you wifi adapter? Run Pup-Kview to see, the desktop file needs fixing but just run "Pup-Kview" from terminal. If it is you should try peasywifi http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 089#786089 and see if it works.

I should try and get Bluetooth working in X-precise one of these days.

As a quick and dirty diagnostic stab, copy the directory /lib/modules/all-firmware/rtl8188_8192su into the directory /lib/firmware and reboot. Then use one of the network managers to look for a wireless Interface. I've been testing PeasyWifi with good sucess and like it. Not at all elegant (the hack above, not PeasyWifi ) but....

I created a savefile for xslacko 2.0. next, I copied rtl8188_8192su folder
from /lib/modules/all-firmware/
to /lib/firmware/

reboot
no luck

but it doesn't want to run.

So, if I want to use xslacko, i might have to settle for x-slacko 1.1 for now.

Or you can use lsmod from terminal and look for rtl8188xx

If not you can try Control Panel > System > BootManager > Modules tab > Add new module and try rtl8188ee or maybe rtlwifi.
