I have installed at last puppy on the portege 7000ct laptop, and it runs smoothly. this is a pentium2 machine with 160Mb ram, which has win98 on it.
It has no cd or floppy, so I used the pup4dos method. I have chosen the xorg x-server, but it did not work. after some checking I found out that the xorg configuration file, /etc/X11/xorg.conf was missing a "Screen" section, so I added it to the file.
I've also added some info to the "Monitor" section, and after this everything went OK.
here is the two sections for anyone who needs it:
Section "Monitor"
Identifier "Monitor0"
VendorName "Monitor Vendor"
ModelName "Monitor Model"
HorizSync 31-39
VertRefresh 50-70
#UseModes "Modes0" #monitor0usemodes
Modeline "800x600" 40 800 840 968 1056 600 601 605 628 +hsync +vsync
EndSection
Section "Screen"
Identifier "Screen0"
Monitor "Monitor0"
Device "Card0"
Subsection "Display"
Depth 8
Modes "1024x768" "800x600" "640x480"
EndSubsection
Subsection "Display"
Depth 16
Modes "800x600" "640x480"
EndSubsection
EndSection
