Updated setup pet for LxPup14.02

#46 Post by peebee »

Updated to revert to LxPanelx-r606

Download the setup pet for use with LxPup14.02 (Slacko 'flavour' only)

Suggest - preferably start again with a clean savefile if frugal install or uninstall the previous setup pet before installing this one. Reboot after installation.

Thanks peebee for that

still having issues with icons in the app launcher of lxpanel appearing as default icons after reboot with message "file not found"

i think its related to changing theme etc

another question (off topic sorry)

regarding compiz, I like to set up a hot corner or button to view all windows

I only see option of "expose" that shows workspace overview which I dont use

oh also, any pet to tie my hardware volume control into alsa?

thanks thanks
thanks again

Hi wrayc

Really sorry to hear that you are having problems....
I'm at a bit of a loss to suggest what you could do as I don't really understand your setup or what you are trying to do with Compiz - I'm not a Compiz user myself so I'm not the best person to advise when it comes to Compiz configuration and use.

I think the best I can suggest is that you start again with a clean system and download the previous version of LxPup (13.11) from:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/lxpup/files/LxPup13.11/
choosing either the s-4g or the s-pae flavours...

then add Compiz as per:
http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic. ... 463#730463

reboot and make a clean savefile and then see how you get on with that.

Quite a lot of things have changed between 13.11 and the pre-release 14.02 that you are using and it may be that something else besides the LxPanel-r694 change is affecting Compiz...

Hope this helps
Cheers

Something else to try....

I think that maybe LxPanel plays better with Compiz than LxPanelX.

This pet:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/lxpup/f ... t/download

converts LxPup14.02 to LxPanel

It should be installed after the Compiz sfs has been installed but before this setup pet is installed:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/lxpup/f ... t/download

thanks so much peebee for the suggestions

ok, I reverted back to my previously saved SFS file with only couple minor personalizations, like internet connection, chrome installed etc.

I have a feeling the issues have something to do with "theme" changes, that the save file gets corrupted., hence; "file not found" message and icons missing etc

so far, not changing the theme seems to solve the issue

but, I will attempt again, a I already have the sfs file backed up

regards

ok peebee

I tried every single permutation on 14.02 LXpuppy

the last, being the most recent config you suggested

on new install with LxPup-14.02-s-4g-190214.iso

works fine for theme changes

then compiz_python_lxpup-0.8.8.sfs with sfs-load on the fly

then lxpanel-0.6.1-2-i686-lxpup.pet

then lxpup14.02_compiz_lxp_setup.pet

work fine on boot but after theme change

and after reboot

same issue

default icons in application launcher

system tray , however; seems fine

Something else to try....

Changing the GTK2 theme does seem to have this effect. No idea why it works with the original theme but then doesn't if you change it....

Try putting

Code: Select all

lxpanelctl restart
at line 30 of /root/Startup/z-lxde-startup.sh
just before the for loop

This seems to work for me.

I've updated the setup pets with this change.

Installed frugal CompizPup 14.03 pae on a small ext3 partition onto an old notebook - Fujitsu Siemens Amilo 1655G - using an external monitor - Acer AL1711 .
CPU AMD Turion ML-34 , ATI EXPRESS 200M videocard.
Working fine with or without save file .Really nice , thank's peebee & all !
However if I try to make a custom remaster , Compiz breakes - so I use a savefile .

I tried it also on my main desktop but Compiz does not get along with my AMD Sapphire Radeon HD 7870XT card and I didn't made it to install the ati-pet for Slacko 5.7.0 and see it working on that machine .

Just finished downloading this version of Puppy for a test run.

LXDE is a nice, light desktop. Heavier than JWM, but JWM was never a favorite of mine. Since LxPup caught me since I first tried it, I'll give this release a test run.

testing compiz on compizpup

#65 Post by mekalu2k4 »

Hi,

I have downloaded and tested compizpup on my dell xps 18.4 inch tablet/ intel i5/ 8gb ram/ 500gb hdd. Here are my observations.

- compizpup is lightening fast. windows are great. almost all features worked well.

- touch did not work. I am aware that puppy also does not have this. However, touch is working in its basic form on fatdog64 and tablet can be used.

- compiz worked fine. However, I did not get the 3-d cube on the screen (showing different screens on different sides) yet. Not sure how to get this as we see in pictures or videos on web. I am a noob. Can you post some instructions step-by-step how to configure compiz?

Also note that I do not have nvidia on my machine. But most threads suggest that compiz works on builtin intel graphics (intel 4400) cards.

Edit (addition): Is it possible to add a onboard (on screen keyboard) to this distro?

Thanks for your efforts and looking forward to hear from you...
