Macpup 550
You're not stuck with the default Macpup layout, e17 can do almost anything. Look over the e17 guide first.
I can't include everything in a pre-installed note because there are thing we don't find until after its released. What I can do is start a thread on our forum and include a link to it in the "help" page so a new user would have direct access to the latest info about the release. That's the idea at this point......

But hum... my english is not too bad,
le jargon informatique me dépasse (software jargon in english is not 'my cup of tea')
However, i shall try. After all, perhaps things are not so hard as i think.

macpup 550 is great in looks.
But i don't know why HTOP shows me that the CPU usage is >70% with no big app running.CPU is heated heavily.
even when i just logged in and i know that there is hardly any heavy process
running.
My chip's gonna fry.
I run the live-usb version.
Am afraid of installing full in to my box.
My cpu is Intel core2duo T6650 1.83 gigz.
is there any problem with this cpu and macpup kernel.
Why is that?

No No!I got it fixed.runtt21 wrote:The only time I have ever seen usage that high was because of an extra module being loaded. But just stock it shouldn't. Do a md5sum on your .iso to be sure. Try using the cpu scaling tool.
Macpup's an absolute fine stuff.
Zigbert's Pmusic was eating my cpu everytime.
i killed it.
everything was fine.
i don't know why Pmusic never runs well.
I can't drag any playin' song to the last position.then it behaves erratic.
zigberts must show us some light.
sorry,runtt21!
I run xmms in mine.

I like it better than pmusic. Personal preference is all it is though.

Have added some hints how to alter plogout* scripts to add
acpitool -s
to that racy acpitool thread of mine .
Basically it needs a wrapper script that then issues acpitool -s .
First test on my Dell desktop from year 2007 succeeded .

Asus EEEPC 701SD
After fighting a few Linux installs on my eeepc 701sd.
I just said screw it and did a Full Install off of a 4 gig sd card made with unetbootin. Used Pmount to mount the SD card and left it mounted on the desktop so Full install could find the files instead of on CD. 8gig internal Phison SSD is flagged as boot, Ext2 file system (non journaled because old ssd drve). No /swap partition ether.
If fubared for improper shutdown. I know how to fix with Live usb with gparted.
Installed grub4dos as bootloader . I had to hand edit it and change (general info edit, not detailed), root=/dev/sdb1 to root=/dev/sda1.
Sound, Tap, Wifi all work. Firefox updated to version 24. Specs below. Like I said. This is a Full Install. Not a Frugal.
Since a fresh install this morning. I have not had time yet to do my custom tweaks and installs yet. Looks like this netbook is a MacPup 550 machine
for now. Now to see if this baby will play movies on my 60 inch big screen TV via pendrive and Mplayer

@runtt21--
Macpup 550 has by default ROX-filer enabled(i.e. when i mount a device in Pmount, it opens up through ROX, i want eFM instead!).
IT also has eFM,which is cool and awesome too.
i plan 2 use eFM as default.(coz i've used rox for so long and need some cool refreshment through eFM)
is any way there to make eFM default file mgr.?
The thumbnails in eFM sometimes slows opening folders.
can it be disabled?
Any suggestions,folks?

EFM can't completely be the default. It cant mount or unmount drives it need HAL for that and puppy doesn't have or really need it. You still have to use pmount but just close rox open efm and go to /mnt to access your drive. You can put efm back on the desktop by moving the home.desktop , root.desktop & temp/desktop file out of /root/my-applications into /root/desktop. You can also add efm to the ibar. To change settings right click in efm then options and then file manager settings.
I can not save the 1st pup save
I can not save the 1st pup save.
Is not a big problem for me, I stick on macpup 528 at the moment but,
I report this strange bug.
It appends in Macpup 529 and 550. only in one of my computer.
At shutdown. at The dialog of yes/no create save file.
The keybord is stack . No way to use <CR> and arrows. I had top ush the on/of button of the machine.
This did never append to me in other puppyes.
My guess is that x org localization bug that you are already talking about, that make the keyboard stack .
Still is very strange. I try with and without localization settings. same problem.
the problematic computer is a Eee_PC_1215P IT Keybord.

Screen frozen for first save
firak wrote:
My laptop runs precise puppy 5.5, Mint 14, and Macpup 5.29 all with no problems - which hints to me that the problem may be in Macpup 550
I run a frugal install and yes I checked the MD5sum for the .iso download.
Any hints how to resolve this?
My specs:
I get the same thing that firak gets - I can boot 550 OK but as soon as I exit to create a save file the screen freezes - hence cannot use 550.I can not save the 1st pup save.

creating an empty save file.
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 3&start=15
You can try this I you willing to use550. I think, after you run this, you have to rename the save file in a way that mappup find it. egg. macpupsave-myname.3fs .
A less clean method can be :
Run macpup550 on an other computer, create a save file, on the usbstic,
put the usb stick on your 1st laptop, boot, you will have xorg failure, but meybe you can set up screen resolution for you laptop and start from this and set up screen, keybrd, mouse & locale .
I think that a workaround solution for this can beI can boot 550 OK but as soon as I exit to create a save file the screen freezes

Video Freezes during boot from USB - Radeon HD 6450
I'm having similar issues trying to install Macpup 550 - Video Freezes during boot from USB.runtt21 wrote:Since you can run precise 5.5.0 . make a new savefile with it and rename the save file.
Note: This is not a problem for Macpup 528.
Mother Board - Asus P5Q SE/R
Video Card - AMD Radeon HD 6450
Any suggestion on getting this to load would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you
Just to give a link with a person that had troubles with that GCARD upgrading from Ubuntu Lucid to Precise :

Macpup-550 includes XORG_HIGH (Mesa/OpenGL) by default - not sure about 528 .
Kernel modesetting might be different and the newer libdrm might handle that different, too .
I have no ATI/AMD machine, so cannot say much else about it .

What we need is mainly log files .
The Bootup has two/three different stages :
1) Initrd.gz 's /init , that loads a few drivers in frugal installations .
2) The /etc/rc.d/rc.sysinit that loads the most drivers .
3) The xwin script that starts Xorg .
If your screen is usable until xwin starts , then the way would be to boot frugal with the pfix=nox option
and examine the files in /initrd/tmp and /tmp .
After that xorgwizard might need to run to choose the vesa driver for example .
If things hang, the log files likely are still present in the save-file and are possible to be viewed booting another Puppy that works and clicking the save-file .
