The devx for the 4g-NON-PAE version is devx_slacko_5.6.sfs

The devx for the PAE version is devx_slacko_5.6.0.sfs

You have decided is to use Slackware, which is inferior system to Arch. Now that missing package in their repository is the consequence.
It's the other way around, Arch is inferior to Slackware.

You are using Slackware, AND Puppy based on that same Slackware. So what's the point?
I am not trying to make a point. And I removed Slack and put slacko on it.

notebook 'wake-up' problem

#36 Post by FeodorF »

bark_bark_bark wrote:I am having in issue (which first occurred in Slacko 5.4).

When i close my netbook, it will suspend and sleep there like it normally would. The problem is though I can't wake it up. I have press on the power button to shut it down manually. I have no idea why this happens.

It has to be something puppy specific, because slackware 14 doesn't do this on me.
Hi, bark_bark_bark !

Maybe I can help you - if you open 'urxvt' and enter: 'xset q' you will see the default options.

Looking at the 'DPMS setup' you'll see, that your screen is not only going into the 'Standby-mode' but also into the 'Suspend-mode' and into the 'Off-mode' after 600 seconds.

I think this is what's causing your problems.

By adding the following statement into '/root/.xinitrc' at line #100:

Code: Select all

#DPMI setup on demand
 xset dpms 30 0 0
the problem should clear up. (Just save the changes and reboot/restart X.)

You can read over there about the same problem the other way round:

Quick test report (desktop pc)

#39 Post by FeodorF »

I had to give it a try.

Slacko 5.6 PAE (K-3.10.5 i686 [X.org:1.12.4]) Live-CD boots up within 300 seconds into a 1600x900x24 / 1280x800x24 screen.

I have tested an old ATI (Rage IIC AGP) and a MGA (Mystique PCI) graphic card - both capable of 1280x800x24.

Also tested an old ATI (Rage IIC Ver.7a AGP) - capable of 1600x900x24, To get into the technical detail of this card I included the /var/log/X.org.0.log file.

Add up: Trio64V2 graphic card (using the S3-driver) tested with 800x600x24 - just to proof functionality with X.org:1.12.4 - nothing else.

Posting of it right now - Pentium-II 266MHz.

Just tested my Pentium-III 933MHz equipped with a 'quirk' nvidia GeForce4-MX440 card from China.

Needs the 'nv' driver in order to render applications in 'full scale' mode.

Good to know that I can use PAE Kernel-3.10.5 and X.Org 1.12.4 for this box.

Wireless network connection

#41 Post by bigpup »

Live CD with save file on hard drive.
Netgear n300 USB wireless network adapter.

When I boot up, my network adapter is not working or even turned on.
I can use Network Wizard to set it up, using Ndiswrapper, and a Windows driver. It is activated and works now.
I save this setup, but on reboot, adapter is not working or even turned on.
Rerun Network Wizard, setup, and connection works. The profile is saved, but I have to select it and run setup at each boot.

So, I tried using Frisbee.
Setup connection.
Rebooted.
Network adapter active and connection working.
With Frisbee, the settings were saved and used at next bootup.
At bootup, there are Frisbee messages about eth0 and wlan0 shutdown. It then activates wlan0 and connection working.

I have tried to find this, but I seem to remember Barry stating (in his blog) something about having Wlan turned off when he was making changes to the startup scripts.
The things they do not tell you, are usually the clue to solving the problem.
When I was a kid I wanted to be older.... This is not what I expected

Slacko 5.6 - feedback, bug reports

#42 Post by Billtoo »

I did a manual frugal install of my remastered slacko 5.6.0 pae iso to a 32gb
Micro SDHC card.
On first boot there were no network modules available when I ran
frisbee, I realized that I hadn't copied zdrv_slacko_5.6.0.sfs into
the directory along with the other 3 files...damn...so I fixed the
mistake and it's working.

Slacko Puppy is now shutting down .....
but doesn't after new (wiped) FULL on first restart only.
Something missing?
Hard reset causes predictable messages and file chk - reboot then OK, except, Xorg 'Ignore'.
Also getting (first FULL run) "cannot (something?) in tmp/???
but it does start!
Fairly trivial but might confuse some punters? Still better than sliced bread...

I have just noticed something weird!

Each time i load or unload an SFS, all the programs i have removed from "remove builtin packages", appear again in the menu and they work like they were never removed!

Another (minor) issue is that, after installing openbox_extras, the "fun" menu doesn't exists in the panel menu.

#47 Post by gcav »

Hi Micko...
the F2FS looks promising... I managed to get a USB sitck working
on it, and it is FAST... damn fast...

I am having issues whith X starting up apart from VESA.
I need to boot with PFIX=NOX and then manual setup VESA.

Did you modify the init scripts?

I just tested the awakening of SLACKO 5.6 PAE on my little Netbook EeePC (ATOM powered). It sleeps, awakens, and renews IPs over the ethernet cable as well as via wireless AND, MOST importantly, it IS able to navigate, and touch other PCs.

This is not the case for my HP laptop for some reason. Although, I am NOT using ethernet wire and wireless at the same time as is the case in Netboot testing.

Ideas..anyone.
