Where can I find a DOSEMU package (PUP, SFS or other) for Precise Puppy 5.6.1 ?

TIA for your help.

Set your repos and update.. dosemu_1.4.0+svn.2010-1_i386.deb +deps is in there.

Been looking for a Dosemu myself. Only I need it in a .pet for Racy. I'll keep doing the Puppy search,...maybe something there.

You might find it in here (I did see Dosbox in the Quirky packages subfolder):

http://distro.ibiblio.org/quirky/

Or perhaps try installing from the distro:

http://dosemu.sourceforge.net/

I don't know enough about Racy or Precise to tell you what other sources might work.

Under Lucid, I regularly install Debian packages... I (don't think I have this under 5.28 at the moment, but...)

Does DOSEMU run DOS programs in Linux?

Yup. It gives you a DOS command line (and file system).

And since machines that run DOS are getting rare... ;-)

(granted, software that runs in DOS is also getting rare...)

Actually at least one shop program was written in DOS. After many years of troubleshooting and tweaking, it works well. Redoing it would be a painful and expensive process, just really not an option if there is any other choice.

I probably should note there's also DOSBox, as an option.

As for DOS software going away... I wouldn't entirely say that. It's still being produced, in the form of console/CLI software. You just don't hear about it, as much, because everyone looks for GUI-based software first and foremost. :|

(...and yes, there's often a number of Linux command-line program ports in there...)

We're raising the next generation unable to use the command-line, I tell you.

Hey! Thanks for the link. I'm an old diehard that still uses some Dos programs.
EDIT..eh,..no luck so far. Oh well,...guess I could switch Puppies so that I could use the Debian version  (so easy to do).

As also mentioned, give DOSBOX a try also. I think that I've played with both, and both seemed fine.

Too late, Retro,..
already got Macpup 529 installed (forgot just how nice it is)...and have Dosemu up and running. Dosbox always seemed a bit confusing to me (having to use the Z: drive,..instead of the old C: drive thingy. I'll try fooling more with Dosbox, though ..mayge I'll like it just as much. Who knows?

I remember the look on my co-workers faces when they walked behind me on an XP machine, and I was working in the DOS window...

Unfortunately, the XP family doesn't have a REAL DOS window, so it's a bit unstable* when running some programs (I have lots of old Fortran code that I run -- I have pretty much moved over to running it all under Puppy).

* (by unstable, I really mean "unstable" -- a code will run one time, and fail the next 2 times, then run the one after...unpredictably unstable...)

Yeah, I should stop skimming topics before I reply.

Hmm... I don't remember the CLI in XP being that unstable... but then, I didn't try to do much in the way of programming with it. That's what my 9X/ME or earlier machines are for, with the true DOS setups. :D

Thank you for your help.
I was able to install and use DOSEMU on Puppy Precise.
Do you know if it is also possible to install DOSEMU on Puppy Racy ?
Are they compatible ?

TIA.
