Sub_title: Wheezy - Slacko - Precise - Raring - Fatdog

Released late June 2013

Uploading TEST builds - reports and comments welcome.

With Datafilehost you use the small grey "DOWNLOAD" button.

If you see a larger "Download Now" button it is a Windows .exe downloader with an advert so ignore it.

NOTES:-

- See a few posts down for versions for Fatdog

- Lots of extra codecs included
- Opus codec included (support not officialy announced yet)
- Built with TLS, SRTP and ZRTP encryption included (working?)
- Video may not work on all hardware (**SEE BELOW**)
- Pet packages are still under 2MB in size

- "Record" is supposed to be a new feature but appears not to be working.

- 09th August 2013 Slacko 5.6 (and Slacko 5.7) has newer ffmpeg so I have re-compiled Linphone for that release. Download link added above.

UPDATE - 06th October 2013

The above builds have the standard configuration for Linphone 3.6.1 which uses OpenGL as the video renderer. I have found that this does not work on quite a lot of the hardware that I have tested and people on the Linphone mailing list have been reporting similar problems.

Try the ones above first, but if you find that your video window is just blank / black or your webcam appears not to be working then you may wish to try one of these below. They are compiled with OpenGL disabled and xv enabled as the video renderer instead.

I have made a test in slacko 5.5 with my Ekiga Call Out account. It works. Thank you. Now I can choose psip32 (PuppyPhone) or linphone. This is the first time I get a working linphone in puppy. I have used linphone in slackware and so I know it.

Thanks for this! I'm going to try out the first one and download the new Slacko one for when/if I upgrade to 5.6

Also, if anyone is looking for free Exclamation SIP account you can go to https://ostel.co
They also have an Android app so people can have encrypted calls via wifi on their otherwise unsecured cell phone.

Thanks for the replies so far.

One of the main advantages of Linphone over the otherwise excellent PSIP Puppy Phone is that it has video capability, so it was a bit disappointing that it did not appear to be working in all cases. Nobody here has reported any problems, but I found that it did not work on some of my test machines and people on the Linphone mailing list have been saying the same thing. The previous release (3.5.2) seemed better in this regard.

Anyway, I have uploaded some new builds, compiled with OpenGL disabled and xv enabled as the video renderer (which I think is what was used in 3.5.2). These options do not appear in the configure script, they were suggested by the Linphone developers. I can get video working on all my machines now.

See first post

It worked for me in Slacko 5.6 both video and audio when I used it to video call my brother. Using a 1 year old netbook.

I tried to get it working in Fatdog using the Slacko pet knowing that the 32bit Slacko SFS makes Slacko (only up to 5.3.3) 32 bit aps work in Fatdog. I figured a few newer libs would do the trick but I am still a novice and was mistaken.

Edit: Fatdog Kernel is 3.8.7 so maybe the older linphone would work?

CatDude has managed to get Linphone-361 working in fatdog. I can put it in my repository if anyone is interested. It's a 2.4M SFS file but could easily be converted to a pet.

Hi smokey01,

I'm interested in the Fatdog SFS. It was too hard for me to do so I am just as curious to see how he did it as getting it working.

If you haven't seen what I tried and want a laugh, see this:

Try these.

http://www.smokey01.com/software/Fatdog64-600/other/linphone-3.6.1-glx-x86_64.sfs

The xv version works for me while the glx version works for CatDude.

Thanks Guys,

Glx video captured my mug. Xv opened, but the video was just black. The output in the terminal was the same for both instances of linphone. I didn't see any differences when I went to the preferences menu. I'll try to actually make a video call tomorrow.

I saw a new thing at linphone dot org where you can run linphone as an addon in a browser.

The Windows version works. I tried back in October but never posted back. I believe it displays the directory and file where it is being recorded to but it doesn't show up on the Linux versions I've seen.

I also had a black screen, and now shows a picture perfect! Smile
Thank you!
It remains to understand why registration in the network fails.
Or you just need to create an account on the service provider?
I now only account http://www.linphone.org
For example we have such http://pctel.ru/ Judging because they use the SIP protocol, I think is what you need.

Yes, this Linphone is pretty good. I use it all the time.
With the video you just install the version (Open GL or xv) which works with your hardware.

The video echo test at sip:301@ideasip.com is working.
Just enter that sip address and call.
It takes a few seconds to get going, but you should see your own video bouncing back to you.

I have no trouble registering with sip providers. I have probably tested around 7 or 8 of them including Linphone's own one and they all work.
With the Linphone client you can register with more than one provider at the same time. I use Sipgate because it provides me with a geographical land-line number as well so people can call me from conventional phones, but I also use iptel.org because anyone can call that from any sip phone.

You can make calls to sip addresses without registering with a sip provider at all, but it is just more difficult for other people to call you.

Thank you for the address of the echo video!
I added it to your contacts.
And there are no robots, buyout would write an answer? Very Happy
When I turned on my video, the video echo should appear in another window?
It has not turned: "No answer".

If I click Options>Enable self-view before I make the call I get a separate video window which opens showing my webcam.

When the video call starts, the content of that window changes to show the incoming video from the other person but with my webcam video (which I am sending) showing in a small area in the bottom right corner.

With the echo test, the video you are receiving will be your own video but delayed by about 1 to 2 seconds.
