After doing all of the setup stuff for Frugal I went to reboot and the Save to File did not provide the same valuable options as usual - in fact it appeared that it might write the Savefile to sda1 rather than sda4.

There was an option to save to the sda4 partition but I have not done that previously in Frugal and don't know if that is recommended.

I chose Abort then rebooted then decided to try Save to File and only then saw that it provided the options of save location, filesystem type, etc.

It may be helpful to edit the Save window to say that further options will appear in the next window.

The laptop defaults to MS Win7 with no user interaction and if I hit esc I get a menu that only offers Win7.

If I hit F2 during boot I get a HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI menu.

NOTE: The USB boot stick is not plugged in (it should not be necessary for Frugal) and neither is the LH64-b2 DVD.

How do I get to a menu where I can select LH64-b2 or MS win7, please?

Compiz-Fusion works just fine in 602B2:

Add CompizFusion-0.8.8-x86_64-3.sfs to bootup selection, (available at lhpup.org).
Reboot, go to "Shutdown" select "Change WM" and "Fusion" appears as a selection. Just click and desktop will reload with C-F as your WM. Compiz-Fusion Icon will appear on the taskbar and you rightclick for Settings manager or Emerald Theme Manager.
Simple and effective.

I cannot find a syslinux.cfg file on the CD, nor anywhere inside the L64Save file.

b. On the optical disk, there is a file named isolinux.cfg...
Might this be the file to which I should add the code?
I know HOW to do that, but need confirmation of WHAT to add.

Hi Jim,
I googled the error msg and found this:

Code: Select all

chown -R root.root /root/.kde
Maybe it will help you.

Did the command change the group and owner to root?

Same command to changer ownership to spot also did not work.

Odd.

Sorry, I don't know. I figured it out by trial and error.

More detail from gparted:

sda1 fat32 100 MiB
sda2 unknown 128 MiB
sda3 ntfs 107.67 GiB
sda5 linux-swap 9.77 GiB
sda4 ext3 /initrd/mnt/dev_ro2 478.51 GiB
unallocated unallocated 1.34MiB

sda1 contains only the RFI folder and grldr file
sda2 doesn't display on the desktop in pfix=ram mode
sda3 contains the MS win7 files and folders
sda4 contains the LH64-b2 files and folders (Note: LH 601 had been there and was updated early in the LH64-602-b2 install.) The files displayed are: initrd.xz, L64-602.sfs, L74save.4fs, Lighthouse64-6.02-B2.iso, refind.conf, Shellx64.efi, vmlinuz, .wh..wh.aufs, zWine-1.5.14-i486_601.sfs
sda5 doesn't display on the desktop in pfix=ram mode

Also, when the Frugal setup requested a name for the MS win7 partition in refind.conf (it actually assumed win8) I entered sda1 because I didn't see the NEB (?) or SYSTEM label anywhere.

Anything in all of this that may help explain why I am not getting a menus on boot?

In BIOS System Configuration the ]Legacy Support is Enabled.

The description reads: When Legacy Support is enabled, BIOS will load Compatibility Support Module (CSM) to support Legacy OS such as Windows 7, Windows Vista, Windows XP, and DOS. When Legacy Support is disabled, BIOS will boot in UEFI Mode without CSM to support newer OS such as Windows 8."

Could Legacy Mode - Enabled - be interfering in some way?

I hope to never use MS win7 so it's not a problem should I have to stop & edit BIOS should a rare need arise - I really want LH64 to work! :-)

More info ... the Boot Manager Options are:

USB Hard Drive (UEFI)

OS Boot Manager

Boot from EFI File

USB Hard Drive

Notebook Hard Drive

Hi Tazoc

Nice new LH64 puppy - it’s been running very well for the last day or so.
Did a manual frugal install to an ntfs partition on my E732 laptop, booting with grub4dos from an ext2 SDcard.

Enter it on the kernel line. From the LiveCD boot menu, press <tab> (BIOS firmware)
Did this [SUPERB!], but [even though I save the session changes] it only lasts for that session [not auto-applied at the next].
How should I make it permanent?
HELP! :(

If you are using grub4dos or similar, simply add the code to your kernel line in your menu.lst file as stated above, otherwise share how you boot.

a. NOT using grub in any form.

b. As I posted above:

I'm dead in the water here ...

Does the Frugal boot folder have to be FAT32 or can it be Linux-swap or ext3 or something better than FAT32?

I've run out of guesses here ...

Burniso2cd does not work, it just brings up the following screen when trying to burn a cd.

One very minor niggle - touchpad and tapping almost unusable at first startup - not too hard to fix with >menu>setup>adjust touch pad.

Other than that - this has to be the best LH64 ever.
Everything works, suspend, resume, cpu management, wifi, etc. Feels fast.

So much from such a modest sized puppy - thank you Tazoc.

On Line 20, change "cdrom" to "optical".

Or replace burniso2cd with PeasyDisc.

If I turn Legacy Mode OFF I gather that it will stop MS win7 from loading but will that help or hurt LH64-b2 in any way (perhaps solving the no-boot Frugal problem) or make no difference?

Lighthouse 64 602 Beta2 with GIMP-2.8.4

#95 Post by Billtoo »

I moved my Lighthouse 64 beta 2 install to an older HP desktop pc.
I booted with the option that doesn't load x and ran xorgwizard-puppy
then chose probe and the correct screen resolution.
I needed to run the multiple sound card wizard and then reboot to get
it to use the usb sound card that I'm using.
