Lighthouse 64 602 Beta2 with GIMP-2.8.4 (6-29-2013)
I have joined the Forum.
Right now I'm trying to sort out how to add multiple text frames (created in mtpaint and saved as png).
I have a Project with 60 frames of an airplane about to land.
BTW: Why is it so hard for the app to just offer a Time option? I should be able to add an image and specify that it should be held on the screen for xx seconds.
Anyhow ...
I need to add 60 frames of a text message saying "Welcome to Statesboro, GA, USA!"
When I open the Project and go to the last Frame, #60, then Append and select "welcometoga1.png" it is added as Frame # 61.
However, if I try to add multiple additional Frames Avidemux2 v. 2.5.6 crashes.
I just discovered that if I create a second Project containing 60 Frames of "welcometoga1.png" then Save As Multiple JPEGS then Open the first Project and Append to the end it works. (Not terribly intuitive.)
Next to add video clips and then sort out the audio problem ...

According to this forum thread elsewhere Avidemux 2.5.6 may be broken on the audio side -- which may explain my day-long frustration trying to get it to recognize the audio associated with the video.
https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/36430
The source file comes from a Canon camcorder which generated a .MOD file in which VLC identifies the audio as AC3 (a52) stereo 48000Hz bitrate 256kbs.

I listed the Audio codec, here's the Video (also per VLC):
MPEG-1/2 video (mpvg)
720 x 480
Frame Rate 59.940060
Decoded Format: Planar 4:2:0 YUV

I don't know what you mean "ugly" since "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder."Senza Vega wrote:Hello,

I see an operating system and apps as purely utilitarian - I don't care what they look like so long as they are efficient to use and get the job done effectively.
IMHO, YMMV ...

Hi Senza Vega; When I first started messing with Linux I used KDE.
But now I avoid the "big boys", Gnome and KDE. Bloated and don`t offer much that`s new.
I`ve always liked Xfce and Lxde looks very good also, maybe better than Xfce.
You need to describe what your problem looks like for us to help.
Is it color, the way the controls look, or something else?

If you saw my all-steel house (studs, siding, & roof), and knew my somewhat artistic & traditional wife, you'd laugh even harder as to my utilitarian perspective vs her preference for pretty and traditional.Senza Vega wrote:Thank you !

It does look nicer on the inside - where we live - than the outside where the bugs live.

Avidemux 2.5.6 - More Problems
The avidemux.org Forum is all-but useless -- a few views of posts but rare helpful posts -- none despite three efforts to add information to my request for help.
Yesterday I had success building a project with an audio-video clip then a file containing 60 copies of a fixed image.
It broke when I added a second audio-video clip at the end.
Today when I try the audio-video clip with the 60 image file it errors-out when it gets to the file that worked fine yesterday.
I haven't changed anything on this laptop & have all auto-updates turned off (or at least I think I do).
Here's a PupSnap of the error:

Gtkam - Sony HDR-CX380?
Any idea how I get Gtkam, or some other app, to recognize a Sony HDR-CX380 camcorder?
It's not listed in Gtkam - I tried MTP and it failed as well.
I tried all of the USB options and it "could not initialize".
It would be nice to be able to pull clips off the SD card via a USB cable while in the camera rather than always having to remove the SD card and mount it on my laptop.
WDYT?

Idea
It may be that the camcorder does not provide the necessary functions to make its storage available over the USB cable (although for Windows, it might with its camcorder app that came with the camcorder). If that's the case, Puppy would need to have a software program/feature to mimic what the Windows app does to enable the views of the camcorder's storage.
Sometimes for some things that can be made to run in Wine, a Windows program could be adapted to run. But, because it would need direct access to the I/O subsystem, this Wine approach may not get the view it would need to make camcorder storage available for your manipulation.
There may be solution, though, that others can offer.
Thanks for that gcmartin, I look forward to additional input as well.
Meanwhile, another anomaly has popped up ...
I can view a video clip on the camcorder, and via a HDMI cable, on a large screen TV and all is well.
If I copy the clip (it's .MTS) from the SD card to my laptop (LH64-602b & VLC) or share it via Dropbox with someone using a Microsoft-infested PC the same clip stutters on both machines.
EDIT
From VLC:
Stream 0:
Video
H264 MPEG-4 AVC (part 10) (h264)
Resolution: 1440x1080
Frame Rate: 59.940060
Decoded Format: Planar 4:2:0 YUV
Stream 1:
Audio A52 (aka AC3) (a52)
Stereo
48000hz
256k
Stream 2:
Subtitle
Codec: BD subtitles (bdpg)

Someone on the SONY Forum tried to blame the Player & said I needed to dumb-down (reduce) the recording frame rate because the Player couldn't handle it.
I reminded him that I paid for that frame rate and expected SONY to make converters or drivers available to Apple,Linux, & MS users so that we may use our recordings without hassle.
In the meanwhile, is it true that VLC cannot handle their MTS H264 MPEG-4 AVC (part 10) (h264) Resolution: 1440x1080 Frame Rate: 59.940060 Decoded Format: Planar 4:2:0 YUV output?
BTW: Their same MTS file doesn't render without stuttering on a Microsoft PC either.

Our son just tested the file on VLC 2.0.6 (stock from the VLC site) in Microsoft Win7 and it handled the SONY .MTS file OK.
The same version in LH64-602b stutters when playing the same file.
He's using the same HP Pavilion g7 laptop that I am.
WDYT?
